Yesterday morning, when starting my Mach E to go to work, I got a vague “Service Vehicle Soon” alert on the drivers screen. There was the wrench icon and the red car/! Icon as well.

Looking in my FordPass app, all the systems were showing green, and nothing else was flagged. While poking around the app, I ended up in my account on the Ford website. The diagnostic there said my vehicle has a “high alert”, but no additional information. All the systems are showing green and good.

If anyone has a way to potentially narrow down what might be causing the issue, I would greatly appreciate it.

For additional information, my Mach E is an early production 21 (picked it up in March of 2021) Premium extended range 4WD. I have not had the HVBJB replaced yet. I contacted the dealership a couple weeks ago once I got the letter to get on the list. I did have a problem with the 12v battery not getting charged over 2 years ago, but after being seen by a dealership tech, that has not been a problem.

For when the event occurred, the car was around 60% charge, and not plugged in. It had been on a L2 charger at work the day before for a few hours. I also have not noticed any drop in power, but I haven’t been testing its limits right now.

I do have an appointment at the dealership for next Thursday to get the car seen, and will minimize driving until then.

How many miles are on it? Could be a reminder for mileage service.

I personally harvest codes on my modem vehicles on a fairly regular basis.
On Fords, I have 4, I use my smartphone and either Forscan Light or OBDlink app.

Your alert is exactly why I do it. At least I can quickly view exactly what triggered the alert and perhaps have a clue of whether it's harmless or more serious.

Hopefully your alert is benign.

15,7xx miles. I am still learning the new version of the app, but I could have sworn I sawn next scheduled service due in 2025 in some of my searching recently. But I can’t seem to find that entry.

There is no way of telling why the check engine light is on without pulling the code(s). Get a free copy of the CarScanner app and a compatible BTLE OBD2 reader (unless you already have an OBD2 code reader). This will be able to pull the codes, which will tell you the issue the car has flagged. Alternatively, you can post your VIN in the FDRS thread and ask a volunteer there what codes are present for it. ??

Hi there! I can look into your Mach-E's error message concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Mach-E's VIN?

Could be the oil pump failure. My car had that happen and its getting a new motor. If you drive the car around fordpass might update with a powertrain fault.

I had that happen once several months ago on my 22 premium awd er. I drove it home under reduced power and the next day it was fine. Researched on this forum and apparently was just a glitch. Hopefully same for you.

I've seen the message pop up once on my '22 Premium ER and once on my Lightning. The MME does updates 10 or so minutes after you start and as far as I can figure, it was updating some component that doesn't require immobilization and threw the code due to the update. Essentially, if you can check which code, it may give you some closure - Otherwise, drive on.

I am hopeful that it is just some thrown code that has latched in and needs to be cleared by a tech. But since it has now been multiple days, and the alert is still there, I kinda preparing for the worst. Luckily I should be able to get by with only having to drive it to work a couple of days next week, and it is not a super long trip, so its not like I am super stranded if something does go wrong.

I did order an inexpensive OBD scanner, so if I can get that to work, I might get some idea of what is going on over the weekend.

I got the OBD adapter, and I think I got a free phone app to connect to it, but it was reporting “No CEL” and no codes.

I tried to get a different app going, but it wouldn’t connect. Reading later, it could have been because the first app was still connected.

Either way, I was pretty busy over the weekend, and with no discernible problems with the vehicle, and Fords reports not directly reporting any problems, I let things be. I didn’t want to dig too deep and either make things worse, or blow away any traces of the codes that may have been there.

The Ford Rep that reached out took some additional information, but wasn’t able to supply anything regarding the state of the vehicle. So it goes to the dealership tonight to be looked at tomorrow.

Generic apps won't work on the Mach-E, no codes will show up (they are designed to read codes from ICE vehicles). You need to use an app that has support for Ford EV parameters, such as Car Scanner, FORScan, or Torque Pro.

FYI if you try to turn the gear shift knob without pressing the brake pedal first you can trigger the error message. That's a harmless glitch.
