Today I had a road trip from Chicago to Madison. Janesville WI gas a nice new station with Shell chargers (at the Hy-Vee, used to be charge point). Anyway charged there in both directions. Prepped and downloaded the new Shell Charge app but discovered Plug and Charge works nicely though Ford - so I did that. Chargers are 180kW with a cheap rate ($12.60 per hour +$1). With some conditioning plugged in, used Ford app, started easily. Got to 74kWv right away. Starting soc 25%. Was disappointed. On way back tried different unit same station thinking it was the unit. Same thing -74kW.

Ionic pulls up. Plugs in next to me uses the Shell app and gets to 150 kW right away. Needs my help to use the app for the first time too. Good Samaritan luck for me right.!?

Anyone know of Shell throttling Ford (or other) 3rd party apps?

Was especially annoying since that guy paid let's than half of what I did since it was charged by time not kw

No, app is not limiting charge. issue is 400 volt vs 800 volt systems on the vehicles. That is why the Ionic charged at a faster rate. Shell states 80-100KW for most vehicles at this site.

180kW is false advertising. Those stations are amp limited so you have to have outrageous voltage to reach 180kW. 74kW was about the best you’ll get at what was probably a 200 amp max supplied by the charger.

I've charged twice here in Canada with Shell and have the same experience - pretty sure the max I ever saw was also around 74 kW. I had even pre-conditioned. Disappointing for sure. And FWIW I used the ReCharge App.

You seem to suggest Ford Plug & Charge worked at this particular Shell Recharge DCFC charger. Do you mean using the Ford Pass app worked well, or do you actually mean Plug & Charge worked, so you did not touch your phone, nor sync screen, nor charger screen, nothing, and it automatically charged?

On the first time I used the Public charging app for the first time in the car. Second time used the app on my phone (Ford pass app). I think I find often that my process of starting to DCFC is all over the place. I can P&C with evgo or EA sometimes. Sometimes need to select on the app, and even swipe my credit card on the machine and exclude Ford completely, even at stations I use frequently.

My point here was the guy next to me got 150 on their app and I didn't

You’ll see the same thing at ChargePoint “125 KW” stations. You’ll get about 60 KW unless you’re driving a 800V EV.
