Afternoon All,
UK AWD Premium 2021 build car here. Within the last 6-9 months I have got the red "Shift System Fault" and accompanying orange Wrench "Service Vehicle Soon".
The vehicle works and shifts without fault, the only symptom is the chimes and error message. Shortly after I first got this error I started to get faults on every module with the dash lit up like a x-mas tree. This seemed to be linked to low 12V battery SOC and a long charge on the 12v cleared those other faults with the shift fault remaining.
The car has been into Ford, with notice of a seemingly relevant TSB to check:
TSB 22-2490 - Shift System Fault, Unable to Engage Park, P07E4 Code in SOBDMC
It's come back without any fix and apparently the TSB offering no solution and no clues in the DTCs.
I am at a point now where any further diagnosis work is going to be chargeable. My local dealer referred the case to Ford UK for further advice with them stating the entire wiring loom between the GSM and the rear modules are traced. This alarms me as it sounds like a massive bill for what I feel wont be a solution. If the physical wiring was stuffed I would expect there to be corresponding failures. Being stuck in P, not being able to shift......etc.
The car has had numerous recalls and warranty repairs before now. Around a year or so ago the driver's door module was replaced which was causing errors in Hill Hold, ESC, the electronic handbrake etc. Prior to that it's had the HVJB replacement, Panoramic Roof/Windscreen reseats, Half Shafts, Water leaking into tailgate fix and full brake disc replacement.
As a last ditch effort before getting into endless hours of diagnosis I tried a method suggested elsewhere on the forum. I disconnected the gear shift selector, power cycled the car and then reconnected it. This didn’t work with the same errors and car behaviour persisting (No actual negative outcome, just error messages)
Whilst doing this however I noticed the shift selector module was covered in silver and gold hand written writing and marks. This seemed....odd? Why would a factory fresh part be covered in notes and witness marks? Is this normal? Is this a sign this part has been swapped out or tampered with since it was built? Pictures attached.
The car is new to me from 0 miles so no previous owners or dealers.
I've attached 2 DTC error logs if anyone with smarts can notice anything in-particular.
