U0103 was the DTC.
But otherwise it fits (reprogram affected modules). Except the error was in Norwegian, it did not state stop safely now.
"Gear shift error, service soon" is closer. No loss of power/functionality.

But it could be that this TSB was used when they noticed there was a GSM update available.

Glad to hear the update fixed it.
Forum and Google searches didn't yield any details on TSB 21-2247. @breeves002 did you post this one and I'm just not finding it?
Ran a European VIN, no TSB 2247 nothing related to gearshift.
I found it (attached), it is the same thing as TSB 21-2244, just the European version.

Basically just update the software like most of the other powertrain TSBs.

Thanks.
They simply found an update that concerned the faulted module and stuck it on this half generic TSB. Good to know, works for me.

TSB 21-2244 was applied to my car on November 1. It failed again on November 11. So I'm fed up with "it just needs a software update". A car dying on the road is a serious safety issue.

I understand your frustration, but if a software update fixes the issue... ?‍♂
TSB 21-2244 does not address the GSM. The existence of an update for the GSM was first mentioned on the forum on 10/30. Your first failure was 11/1. The tech may not have noticed it or thought it necessary as the other updates may have taken care of it. Intermittent faults are the bane of a tech's existence.

I just spoke to the service manager. They acknowledged a failure in the shift module, and new fault codes, Ford engineering is engaged.

This turned out to be a catastrophic power train fault. The parking actuator jammed in the rear motor requiring the motor to be replaced, as well as the control module for it. Took a little over two weeks but that included Thanksgiving and I insisted they test drive longer than their usual 2-3 miles.

Now on to other faults. And PTSD.

I'm starting to wonder if these have anything to do with the new GSM update that was released?

It would appear the GSM update could be to address this very failure. "Thou shalt not engage park pawl while moving!"

Service manager told me 21P22 was partially in response to my case. But there are holes in his story. My car has a build date of 6/23 and 21P22 cuts off at 6/18 - likely because the Norwegians had this issue already diagnosed and the examples there were built earlier. And also because 21P22 came out almost the same time.

This does beg the question of whether FRDS enforces the build date range and therefore would not offer the GSM update - if that's really the key here. The modules identified in 21P22 were updated, presumably to latest version.

Had this issue today, 9,500 miles, UK car, March 2021 build date. Ford sent roadside recovery to clear the code which instantly came back, now waiting for Ford to advise where to take it. Called my usual dealer and they don't want to see it until February!

Is the conclusion of this thread that the GSM update resolves the problem, or are the earlier posters who needed new hardware still valid?

Fully expecting that no one at our Ford dealer will be aware of this and I'll have to go through a lengthy diagnostic process despite it all being listed here.

Did you hear a grinding/ratcheting noise? If not, updates/calibration may fix this before it gets to that stage.

No mechanical issues, car worked fine yesterday, error presented itself this morning when I turned it on.

Pretty sure I don't have the issue you had yet, thankfully. I was wondering if the people who had the knobs replaced at the start of this thread were red herrings or not.

Does it say to service soon and is drivable?
Dealer should be able to advise, but unless the car refuses to drive there is no reason to panic (I'm not a Ford representative, of course, so what do I really know?).
The other problem with this module has been that it engages park while in motion, but thats totally different and not related.

After over 13,000 miles and 7 months looks like I have the dreaded "Shift System Fault Service Required" message now.

Is it ok to drive until I can get it to the dealer. Sounds like they have 1 MME person and he is booked for two weeks.
