Or the extra 20 grand a Mach-E costs to buy over a Forester.
Exactly…but. I do really like the car. The feel. The quality, the ride. And I’m in a position in life (54) I can afford it. 25 years ago with income to debt ratio, NO WAY… the forester would have been the only option.

Very one is concerned about RANGE ANXIETY.

When you truly analyze the problem, it isn’t RANGE. It is Anxiety over cost, speed of charge, and infrastructure for convenient charging.

All those people trapped on the highway in VA winter storm. Eventually everyone will run out of fuel to keep their car running. ICE and EV. Difference is with an ICE I can siphon from someone easily, or can walk a couple of miles and come back with 2 gallons of gas and Drive 50 miles.

To go 50 miles in my EV this time of year (2.5 miles per KW Best case) id need 20KW of electricity. How do I get that when I’m stuck on the side of the road?

Again, you heard it hear. The Anxiety isn’t about range, it is everything else.

Again, love my Mach R 4X … but infrastructure needs major improvement.

I have been thinking about his also, because that cluster happened just about an hour from here, and I frequently drive that road when going back and forth from DC. People were stuck there for 15 hours, some more I think.

If you are stuck in the snow in an ICE vehicle, your car will only provide heat when the engine is running. That means if you have a heating blanket, or you want to run your heated seats, the car must be running or the 12V battery will die. How long can an ICE idle?

I am willing to bet a reasonably charged EV will last longer than an ICE because you can carefully manage the heat - turn the electric heat off, or on very low, use seat heaters, steering wheel heater and a heating blanket. You cannot manage the heat in an ICE - either the engine is running, or it is not. To use a heating blanket, you will need to run the engine. Same for the seats and steering wheel.

A more detailed analysis of cold weather idling in a EV vs. a ICE could be really interesting. I bet the EV wins in many situations.

has an analysis of how well an EV would've fared. And mirrors a lot of what you said.
