Curious if anyone has found a tutorial to remove the vehicle's SIM ?

I suspect this may end updates (unless I left it connected to home wifi)

However it would be interesting to see the side-effects of cutting the link to the mothership for privacy concerns.

Updates only happen over cell and not WiFi.
Updates absolutely happen over wifi. I've seen multiple comments on this forum in the past of people monitoring the wifi connection of the car downloading updates or having a log of the car downloading the update.

Personally I have nothing to hide. If they wanna find you they can. I’m not going to buy a car made in China (see Cadillac CT6 plug in) that may give me some concern.

Its not a matter of feeling like I have something to hide.

It's' about being exploited for the benefit of corporate greed.

To change Vehicle Connectivity settings using SYNC 4A:

Tap Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen. If you see a Home icon instead of Settings, select the Home icon.
Select Connectivity.
Choose Connected Vehicle Features.
Toggle the Vehicle Connectivity slider to your preference (On or Off).

I appreciate the info, but a hardware solution is the only real way to ensure compliance.
removing the SIM, or disconnecting the module it resides in is the only sure solution

Can I ask why you bought a modern car when they have connectivity to the mothership? I'm intrigued as to the answer.
Like I had a choice?

The topic seems to be gaining traction in social media. Have tripped across a few now, videos, and articles without searching them out. It's at least raised my awareness of how deep the data mining is getting into the car's coordinates, driving parameters, shared contacts, texts, music tastes, and more. One thing between your phone and the car, another thing being sent to 3rd parties, the whole while (at least currently) being swept under the carpet by the manufacturers.

It seems benign to most people, since there isn't often an acute symptom of consequences.

The software selection to disable, apparently is only a non-functional placebo for the owner, as the collection continues by some brands.

The only way to prevent the collection is to pull the umbilical.

In the same vein, one would need to consider that the cell phone in our pocket is really a personal tracking device. The apps likely send a lot of feedback to the developers, and its as bad, and maybe worse than what the car companies are doing.

However far as I know phone aren't sending info to the insurance companies and providing warrant less responses to law enforcement about driving information. I have no idea how much of this is true, but some pundits feel it's already ongoing.

Haven't made a tinfoil hat yet (because buying one, it probably has spyware from China :)

Thought were there a simple way to 'cut the cord' , I'd be more than tempted.

FWIW, With the Ford / LexisNexis agreement, it’s specifically opt-in. Unlike others manufacturers that are opt-out.

Either is your Mach E.

But hey tons of people install a cellphone app or OBD for an insurance discount that is doing that.

Yep, but they do that, knowing what they are doing, and being financially reimbursed.
