Smoke coming from driver side door

This morning I was backing out of my driveway and all of a sudden the car slammed to a stop and smoke started coming out of my door. Now the door won’t catch the latch and stays open. This is already my third issue with this vehicle in less than a year.

Fire, or potential of fire, is serious. As is a door that won't close.

Lock/latch motors for one. Window motors. Wiring for mirror if it sparked. Door heater for specially equipped models.

I once had a worker at the Wendy’s drive through spill Coke Zero directly into the door window gap while she was handing it to me through the drive through and it’s been fine, I would hope those parts are somewhat sealed because it’s possible rain could get in.

Well I got it towed to Watertown ford. Obviously the service department is closed until Tuesday.

Hopefully they'll get you back on the road quickly. I wonder why the fault made the car e-stop, though.

If I had to guess...
There is a LVB system issue that caused the car to shut down and somehow affected the capacitors in the door lock/popper mechanism. I don't think there is a fuse in the door from what I remember...???

I belive that all cars should have a mecanical means to open their doors, even a hidden pull cable is good enough, somewhat like the special handle in trunks.
