Speedometer Display

You don't have to turn your head to see the speed in a Tesla Model 3/Model Y.

You simply move your eyes slightly to the right, the same distance as you would if you were looking at the Mach-E speed display. It's also no different than moving your eyes to see your navigation. At least in the Tesla, the speed is always in the same spot every time, no matter what you're doing or mode you're in. Also, the Model X & S have "in front of you" speed display.

It's sure not "the same distance". The MME is still on the driver display, inside the steering wheel view. On a Tesla it's well off to the side of the steering wheel.

Nav basic directions also get duplicated on the MME driver display, while the detailed map displays on the center display.

Yup, turn off lane-keep and the speedometer will be in the middle. I really hope they change this behavior to let us choose what we want in the middle and what gets moved off to the side.

I'm OK with the speed showing either place on the driver display, but I wish it would just stay in one place.

I actually kinda like it on the right side, because it's right next to the speed limit image, and the cruise set speed. Seeing it paired right there with the speed limit is especially nice.

This is the dumbest argument. Both work. There is very little effort to move eyes either down or slightly down and to the right a bit.

I drove a Saturn ION with the center mounted gauge cluster. 200,000 miles. (Yes I am a sad person) Took like 5 minutes to get used to, and for 15 years enjoyed benefit of not occluding the speedometer and tach view with my arm/ hand as I like to cruise with my left hand @12o’clock and right hand on stick shift. ?

Basically its so you don't have to take your hands off the wheel to set it.

Lol.. makes sense! As a control freak who really enjoys driving and has literally never in my life used cruise control, let alone auto pilot or some other smart driving assists, I guess I looked at that part of the steering and erased it from my mind never to be used! ??

You are correct, neither option is very good, and I think the MME should have a HUD.
I love this on my Yukon for the speedometer. It is never blocked and lets you keep your eyes on the road. I do wish it had more configuration options, but MPH, tach and lane keeping are good for me.

I'm the opposite. I think the 10" driver display in the MME is great, and far superior to a HUD. The full-color display is wonderful, and can display way more information and clear detail than a HUD can. It's also not as distracting as a HUD can be, that sometimes distracts from the focus of the road.

There might be a couple of items I'd move around a little, to keep them away from the corners that might get blocked by the steering wheel, but that's only because there's 10x more useful info on the screen with such a robust display.

like the 10" display. just wish i could decide wahjt info it showed and were. spee - left, right or center. something other than the map. maybe how many kw i am using or how many i am regenerating. or even change it!

I was suggesting a HUD in addition to, not in lieu of, the driver display. A HUD is the best place for the information you need constantly, the driver display is good for the things you need less frequently, and the main infotainment display is for everything else. All three need varing degrees of configurability.
Think fighter plane, but for normal humans working in 2D... LOL

So, I found the lane-keep button and I can hit it. But the car still shows in the center of the instrument cluster and the speed off to the right.

Make sure you have cruise control turned off, distance indicator is turned off, and turn off lane keep with the physical button on the left side of the steering wheel.

Hopefully, when Apple Glasses come out, they’ll be CarPlay compatible, and all driver information and controls will be displayed in Mixed Reality. Key information displayed to the driver, and virtual controls always accessible and in the perfect ergonomic position for the driver at all times ????
Oh, wait, Ford is hooking up with Google. I guess we’ll be getting the amazingly successful Google Glass ???

Agreed. I'd rather have the speed stay in the center and the lane keeping on the right.
