Keep in mind too that your cost comparison might be off if you just recently got your EV. Mine showed EZ-3 as the cheapest since I’ve been working my usage around that, but my first EV bill shows that I saved $10+ on the plan.
That's a good point. We've had our 2021 Job 1 Mach E more than 2 years and we signed up for the EV rate plan before the car was delivered. I'll call SRP to see if they can show me how to access the data. Thanks!

I just completed one year on the electric car plan. According to SRP I saved $192 for the year.
My savings were $203 for two years ago and $177 for last year. Of course this is just electric bill savings, not accounting for gasoline.

I like that we're helping keep grid waste down, too.

About how many miles did you rack up each of the two years?
I've looked at the plan and it seems to me that the higher rates at the other times would not be offset since my mileage is so low. I still pretty much exclusively charge overnight though.

Almost 12k miles per year.

If you're been with SRP at least a year, give them a call. They have all the meter data from your last year or more, and they can tell you what you would have paid under each rate plan assuming all your usage remained the same time, etc.

If feel like my non-EV charges are pretty low. Here's my data, below. I got the car in March 2021 and that's also when I changed from the Basic plan to EV TOU. You can see how usage rose that year... But it's also weather dependent so it's hard to get too much significance from just two years of data on one house.

The other big electric user is air conditioning... Last month I replaced my 22 year old AC and gas furnace with a much more efficient heat pump. The old compressor finally died, and it was R-22 so would've been super expensive to repair. It'll be interesting to see how my electric use changes...

I love the idea of having my car purely charged from solar power, but it's not in the cards for me. I'm still annoyed about the monthly $33 "solar surcharge" SPR adds to anyone who has solar. They already buy the solar from users at wholesale rates and sell to customers and retail rates. Does that difference not pay for the grid access fess? I think this is a "discourage users from installing solar" fee.

I am in the "100% Solar choice" program, so I guess there is that. Unfortunately, the EV price plan forces me to charge at night, so that's not solar.

Yeah going solar with SRP is no bueno. AFAIK, the one and only time APS is more customer friendly. 😂

Maybe I should just get solar panels that are not grid tied and dedicated to charging the car. :)

What we need is a system setup to eliminate the inverters on the PV panels and directly charge the car with DC. Maybe with a battery in between as a buffer. 🤔 🤔

This is what would be required:

https://www.victronenergy.com/solar-charge-controllers/smartsolar-mppt-ve.can

But the glaring hole is something has to communicate to the DCFC port on the MME to tell it to accept the voltage and current the MPPT is offering. That will change constantly due to sun and clouds. And unless you have a massive solar array, this would not be what I call fast charging. :)

Yeah. That's where the on-site/battery buffer comes in. Still would probably not be exactly "fast" charging but it would increase efficiency by eliminating the voltage conversion. As you said, the communication piece is the biggest hurdle to making this a DIY project.

The site says "coming fall 2023". Let's hope they don't use the same calendar as Ford. 😆 🤣
I have another 6-18 months before we can put solar in at our new place, so I'm hoping that if it is late it's late on Ford's schedule rather than brand t's schedule.... :p
