Stop charging from inside car

My question is why do you feel the need to stop the charging inside the car when you will momentarily exit the vehicle to remove the charge cable anyways?

1) It's pouring buckets. You want to get out and unplug as quick as possible.
2) You want to record the energy used, before the screen goes blank on the charger. Assuming you can see it from inside the car, hit the internal button, then write the numbers down, then unplug.

Right, so another reason that if this were a conscious decision of the project manager to exclude the code it was dumb. As I said, I prefer to think of it as an oversight, but Ford has done a lot of outright dumb stuff with software.

Companies can implement project management numerous ways. I am very open to this. I was a industry Project Management Institute certified project manager from 2001 until I retired six years ago. I have known people who worked at Ford, who said their project management processes are rigorous.

Project managers should not institute their own policies, procedures, features, etc. Rather they hold team members accountable to first define then implement company policies, procedures and features. Usually an entire team, including the Project Manager, is accountable to a Sponsor who ultimately approve these things.

Perhaps this is what you intend to convey. Just want to caution others not to think a single individual usually determines these things without accountability. Regardless, Ford as an organization should determine all of these features. Now, the logic used to determine these things certainly can be questioned. Not sure one solution fits all circumstances.

I'm still ticked that the locking feature was implemented unannounced back in 2024 (plus being stupidly unintuitive). My dealer did a software update in early December and I was stuck with a locked charge cord later that month. My driver's door was unlocked and my PAAK phone was sitting on the wireless charger, but that combo wouldn't unlock the charge port.

Ford finally announced the new feature a month or so later. Give me a break. You should not have to read up on these things to know where the phone needs to be or which doors need to be unlocked. Ford has created a crazy obstacle course for no apparent reason. Woe to those who don't follow this forum.

When they made it so the charge port could not be unlocked unless a key were present or a door unlocked, they forgot to add the interior key receiver to the part of the subroutine that polls the outside door receivers. An oversight, and a dumb one.

If you press the outside button it should check for the key outside the vehicle. If you press the inside button it should check for the key inside the vehicle. Seems simple enough, but they used the same programming for both buttons, the inside one is just a remote control or soft duplicate of the outside button.

You can also just stick your phone out the window and marvel at the technology while pressing the touch button with your other arm. 🫤

I have been lucky that we have always fell into the combination that works. I carry the FOB in my pocket, and normally we get out and stretch/go to the restroom/eat while charging, so I just come up to the car and press the unlock button on charge port. And of the very few times I have been in the car, I just did the same, get out of the car and press the button. Never gave it a thought to open from inside or even have my wife unplug instead of me.

I have used the App to stop the charge a couple of times.

Today, I was unable to unplug a Ford Tesla adapter. It was a most frustrating experience. The charging location was fairly busy and I was taking up two spots. Folks kept coming over to inquire and help. I could see that there was a seemingly plastic plunger holding the device in position, and I was unable to fully depress it. So, yeah, locked.

Eventually, and unexplainably to me, I was able to click the button on the adapter and everything went correctly. But, I'm left wondering what I may have done wrong.

At my desired completion of the charge, I clicked the button next to the charge port and then attempted to pull the cable out, using the button on top of the adapter. But, as noted, it didn't fully depress. I must have spent 30 minutes, before it magically worked properly.

What did I do wrong? Any help appreciated, before I attempt this again!

Click in the Car icon top left, then you will see the button to unlock the charge port.

Thank you!!! It took a minute to find as I was expecting something like a rectangle button that says "stop charge". I finally noticed the icon near the to right of the screen.

Uh.... I can think of many reasons.

°During a lightning storm or other heavy rain event.
°You might be halfway through the delicious cheeseburger you got at the eatery next door, and you want to finish it first.
°Same with an important phone call.

The possibilities are numerous.

I think you didn't do anything wrong. I had a similar experience at the ChargePoint at Mojo's eatery in Salida, CO a couple months ago. Took about 15 minutes trying everything. Eventually the connection released on its own. I think the cable and plug weight on this mechanical component sometimes causes it to stick.

No, I couldn't hear the unlocking mechanism making a noise. I took a look and the lock pin was holding the mechanism down. The car door was unlocked.

The Tesla cable may not have been fully inserted into the adapter, which can sometimes cause release issues. Or, you weren't pressing the release down hard or far enough. If it happens again, try to push the cable into the adapter more to relieve friction on the locking latch before removal.

I tried all of that. I think the charging session eventually timed out and then released the cable lock. Once released, it all operated smoothly. For some reason or other, the charging session showed 'paused' on the screen, rather than 'completed.' Perhaps I should have used the Ford App to force the session closed--didn't think of that.
