Subaru Solterra

the Subaru is a step in the right direction, if late, but they need to 1) add more range and 2) it charges the same rate as the BOLT. my first car was a BRAT and we never got stuck/sunk/needed a tow, but I think that EV is a look were trying...I hope that they get their stuff together and offer atleast 250 miles, and charge at better than 50KW.

Those black fenders are hideous. Looks like they've been damaged and the replacement has primer but hasn't been painted yet.

I did not think it was possible to make a car uglier than Walter White’s Pontiac Aztec. Subaru has done it. It looks like the illegitimate parent of a Prius. A new standard in misshapen body paneling
Don’t get me started on the 220 mile range

To be fair, compared to the elusive Cybertruck Pontiac Aztek is a beauty.

The stated 10-80% charging time is pretty bad, however I would still like to see the charging curve. If it can sustain higher charge from say 10-50%, and then falls off a cliff after that. It might still be viable option for some people getting their first EV.

The range and charging speed are my main issues with the Solterra and bz4x. Oh... and the black fender color. It is god awful, I have no idea how anyone thought this was a good idea.

I doubt that since Toyota has been actively lobbying against EV credits.
Good point and you're probably right, though sometimes public stances are inconsistent with private lobbying.

My last 2 ICE cars were Subarus (Outback and Forester). When I decided to go electric, Subaru got left in the dust, as they had no contender. The Mach-E has a similar form factor to the Outback, which is what I was looking for - an electric version of the Outback, but the MME is better than Subaru ever hoped to be. The Outback was never an attractive car, but the Solerra makes the Outback look like a beauty in comparison.

Plusses for the MME:

  1. Decent range
  2. Keypad to open doors and password to start car (no keys or phone required)
  3. Push button doors (personally one of my favorite features on my car — much better than the Tesla or Kia/Hyundai push-one-part-then-pull-another-part handles)
  4. Better glass roof
  5. Frunk
  6. More fun acceleration
  7. Available GT model
  8. 150kW charging (it would be interesting to compare real world charging curves in different ambient temperatures)
  9. Plug-n-charge
  10. Blue cruise hands-free lane centering/dynamic cruise control
