a Ford salesman told me that many dealers will receive a “demonstrator” that they have to keep in stock for six months to promote sales before selling it, but that was my local dealer that was so crappy that I ordered from another island (in Hawaii) even though I’ll have to pay inter island shipping, so I can’t vouch for that info.

At what point in the process is the VIN number released? Those with one, was is emailed to you?
For me my dealer had to find it. Nothing from Ford!!! Now it does show up on their order tracker (BUT - NO BUILD WEEK). The dealer found Build Week on his internal "Retail Order Confirmation" program on the dealership computer. I don't understand how this works and why it seems I only get answers from the dealer and not from Ford directly like most on this forum do.

We didn't get our VIN until after Ford sent the e-mail on Nov 5 about the build week. The dealer finally gave the VIN to us on Nov 17. Maybe by now the Ford website has that information much sooner.

The exact vehicle I ordered two months ago, and hasn’t even received a vin # for, is sitting in a lot less than two miles from my house. But the dealership is telling me they can’t sell until it four months or 4,000 miles which ever comes first. Makes no sense.

There is a method online where you can use your order number to retrieve your VIN...it requires some trickery and viewing the source HTML code on Ford's website (I don't have the hyperlink to the instructions, but someone here might have that hyperlink handy). Otherwise, Ford updates your order page with your VIN right around the time of manufacture (my VIN showed up on my Order Details page the week of my MME's production).

I feel the frustration for sure, but I don’t see how it “makes no sense.” Ford wants dealers to have a car to show to promote and facilitate more sales. That particular MME may have the same specs as what you ordered but was likely built and designated as a demo before you ordered yours. My dealer doesn’t have a demo, and I wish they had since it meant I had to place my order on 2/4/21 without ever having even seen a real MME as I would have to fly somewhere to do that right now. I ordered on 2/4 silver Premium awd Standard Range. Got my build date a couple weeks ago week of 5/24) but still no VIN. Based on that, I suspect you will hear more before long.

Posted the form for an order in late Feb, with a projected build date of 5/24, which was sooner than I expected.
Mickey, don't see your entry on the sheet yet. What was your order prefix? I ordered on February 23 with a 1068 prefix, and don't have a build date so far.

My order prefix is also 1068. In case it matters, the order is for a Premium RWD SR. I got the e-mail with the build date on April 1.

Exactly. This is what happened with my dealer. It's anecdotal but they said that other than the demo, every single MME they've received has been a customer order.
