I really wish some car company would figure out how to just not even have a power button. Wouldn't it be great if the moment you open the door everything is just on, and all you do is put it into gear and go? And then when you park you just get out and walk away? That would be super cool ?

If it makes you feel any better about your wife getting out the instant you turn the car off, whenever my boss is in the car with me he always gets out while I'm still rolling lol! Not even in park ?
Not sure if you're serious about eliminating the power button, but I really hope that doesn't catch on. Make it a configurable option for those that don't want to use it, but keep the button for those of us that prefer that method of operation.

Oh, I was being very tongue-in-cheek. But not in the way that you're thinking. That's the way that new generation GM evs, tesla, and Volkswagen ID all work.

Their thinking is that since there's no engine it doesn't really make sense to have an on-off button. Simply sitting in the driver's seat and pushing the brake pedal enables the drive train. But all of the screens and climate control and everything just automatically turn on when you open the door, and turn off again when you close the door and walk away

I was not aware that GM had jumped on that bandwagon. I could have sworn that the Lyriq in the review video I watched had a start button.

I believe you're correct. I think the Silverado EV is the first to implement this... But this is also based on prototypes that they've given to car reviewers. So I suppose it could always change.

It was @OutofSpecKyle's video that I watched and he had a production unit from a dealer.

I personally don’t want all that stuff turning on when I open the door. I may be cleaning the car, loading or unloading and it just seems unnecessary.

And here I am double pulling that handle like some kind of chump.
I do that too, mostly because I park the car and shut it down then I realize that I have stuff in the frunk to retrieve. Sometimes I get the phone out and use the FP app, but it’s usually the handle. ?‍♂?

I would like job 1s to get frunk button ota.....
OTAs are hard. Ford is bad at OTAs. This makes them double-hard. Please don’t make Ford’s brains explode. It’s ugly to see. ??

The Blazer EV also doesn't have a power button. I'm sure I could get used to it, but I'd prefer to decide when I want to turn the car on and when I want to turn it off.
I could go either way on it honestly. My partner recently got a Model 3 (and wow. Ford software really is? in comparison, but that's for another thread on another day). I will say the lack of power button is a double edged sword. It's really handy to just get in and have everything on and ready to go without having to wait for the boot process. Likewise very handy to have full access to everything when you're done driving and walk away. It DOES get kind of annoying that the AC will just spool up and music will start playing the moment you open the door even if you're just grabbing something real quick. Not a huge deal but it is a minor annoyance. That being said everything does turn off again very quick as soon as you shut the door if you're not sitting in the seat.

Sorry don’t mean to hijack this thread, but since it’s related to the frunk…

Has anyone figured out a mod for an external frunk opening mechanism that’s similar to the Tesla in this video?

()

I’d reckon if there was an easily accessible button on the front end of the vehicle’s exterior (just like there is for opening the trunk on the rear), it would negate the need to even bother with the touchscreen, let alone replacing the windshield defrost controls with a frunk button or even purchasing and programming a whole new F-150 Lightning key fob just to access the frunk. I use the frunk a lot nowadays (can’t imagine life without one!), and it’s slightly annoying that I have to put down whatever I’m carrying to open the door and yank the lever in the footwell twice, or dig up my phone and hold the tiny frunk button in the Ford Pass app. It shouldn’t be that difficult to wedge a tiny button in the gap between the hood and the mustache/grill design, right?

Don't give @Jimrpa ideas...
