hey! you do remind me!
we were kept thinking about adding sth on top of the active shutter, but then we think it wont change the strength of the original active shutter.
but this we could make, we made something called bug-proof net for the front grille on other cars previously, just didnt think of this one could actually solve this issue.

Wondering if you have given more thought to this solution for Active shutter protection. It sounds like a relatively inexpensive solution to give at least somel protection from road debris damaging the shutter.

Hey, I was wondering if I could get the file for this one. Hit a bird on the Interstate and lost it. We should create a library somewhere with these sorts of files to access. 2023 model year.

I dig what you're saying here. Coming up with a consistent tagging system could help with discoverability for all. Might be easier in some ways but harder in others.

Nice work and congrats on the fix! I'm wondering if you could explain in a bit more detail how exactly you installed it?

I just bought a used Mach-E and didn't notice til we got it home that the driver's side Active Shutters on the front grill have gotten detached from the motor peg that moves them. Nothing seems broken about them. All the plastic is intact and the motor peg is moving as it should (and controlling the passenger side shutters correctly) but I can just see the plastic ring is no longer around the plastic peg.

Any ideas or tricks on how to fix this? I was trying to just pull hard on the louver's ring and try to bend the plastic and coax it around the peg, but I was feeling nervous I was going to snap the ring off and then have a bigger, more expensive problem to fix or have to go on a 3D printing adventure like you. So I'd love to avoid all that if I can just figure out how to get these two parts to interlock properly again. Seems like there must be some way to shift something around so it can all slide into place nice and clean and easy.

@AOSK if you come up with an active grill protector for these vehicles I'd buy 2. This is definitely something that is needed. I'm worried every day. Not to mention, in summer, some kind of screen protector would also stop bugs (and as someone else mentioned....rocks) from getting into the radiator when the fins are open and I'm on the highway. currently I get bugs in there and have to clean it out a few times a season....so no doubt rocks also could be getting up in there at times......

I was able to bend my replacement enough to get it to fit right in without issue. I believe I did the install when the vents were open vs closed.

I have also since bought a 3D printer, so if it happens again I'll just print my own replacement.

Got my 3D printed replacement in, it wasn't perfect matching color wise. Fixed it. Most people wouldnt even catch the difference at this point. $$$ well saved.

There are several sites online that will 3-D print whatever you send them and ship it to you. Many local libraries also offer 3D printing.

Hi, I attached the file for the 3d scan data, is this gonna help? a 3d print and paint might be able to achieve a 90% fix at an easy and low cost.

It seems wont be hard to install this.
