We designed this, but not sure if it's needed and if it's going to cover the mold cost.

Shall we make one? will you get one if it's 24.99$? any design opinions?

Like it and it touches no paint. It would depend on how much it costs and how it pops in and out. A video would help. You should look into these also. If I bought your insert it would need to work with the sock as the charging handle button ices up.

The only problem is chipping ice out of the port bottom trough once the drain port ices. Does your prototype have a flat bottom ledge also? Would be better if the bottom sloped out.

jack puck? we are already making them. it will be pack of 4. We actually already made a mold before, but it is slightly too big to fit in the front hole, and we are now making another molding for it. we are just doing some testing now at this point.
we will also make some stickers, and include instruction in the package about the jack area so people from tire store or some situations like that wont mess it up
@macheconnection been helping us on doing some testing with it.
Thanks, you can for sure count me in for a set of those.

I'm in if you remove the hole for the door latch port. You'll never need to close the door while charging (obviously) and it can get contaminated with ice & snow, preventing the charge port door from closing.

Make that one change and I'm definitely in.

I used this all year and the only winter charging problems I've had have either been from freezing rain or wet snow which melted and subsequently froze, completely freezing the charging handle latch.
Had exactly the same problem - pretty dumb latch design

AOSK, please take a look at this so you fully understand the problem:

https://www.bmwblog.com/2016/02/21/bmw-i3-life-hack-charge-port-snow-cover/

You need to think more in 3 dimensions rather than just having a flat plate. It needs to protect the latch button of the J1772, otherwise ice will get inside and you won't be able to press down the button to release it:

A bag over the whole thing is the best solution:

we do have something like this too

Not to highjack your thread---but how about making some lift pads--I bet you would sell a ton of those. Just sayin'
Still shocked nobody has come out with anything yet.

Anything less than a full bag that covers the entire door and the rest of the charge port allows ice, which stops one mechanism or another from working. The cover/bag I have does the job, I don't need anything less. If I were in an area with just rain, I probably wouldn't worry about it (we don't use the cover in the rainy season).

holy, I used to live in Ohio, and I thought they have some heavy snow. its a big surprised that the bag will hold with this amount of snow.

There's a Velcro strap that loops around the wiper motor attachment, and the bag has a wide section that lays flat on the hood. The weight of the snow helps hold the bag in place. It's a fairly substantial material as well.

What is the added benefit compared to this original accessory? (It's cheaper too)

Before this thread, and living in an area without snow, I had no idea that this was a problem people had.....

The AOSK one works with the J1772 and CCS-1 charger handle used in North America, where the Ford version does not (EU only). 😊🐩
