What blows me away is that the stuperstalk made the headline of the referenced article but there isn't a single photo of it.

I don't love Tesla's stalk shifting, though it's pretty low on the list of things that bug me about my friend's M3. (Top of the list of things that don't bug me about that car? I get to use it for free when I visit!)

Yeah between the 'superstalk' and the reduced frunk space (I make full use of my frunk), I don't imagine myself upgrading to the latest model. I have a standing order for my salesman to call me when they eventually get '25s in so I can see it in person though. Speaking shifter of placement, my Lincoln Corsair has the shifter up below the vents like an old timey radio, so maybe 'superstalker' isn't that bad ?

I avoid driving our F-150 Raptor if I think there’s going to be inclement weather. I absolutely hate its combo headlight, turn signal, wipers and windshield washer stalk . I was personally quite content with the shift knob on the center console in the mach-e. Given the huge reduction in frunk space I was unlikely to ever downgrade to a 2025. The new mach-e stupor stalk is just one more reason to avoid the latest downgrade.

I find it funny that people would hate a whole vehicle for a shifter stalk. Less frunk space I can understand. The rotary shifter is terrible but I like my MME just the same. I'm waiting to see if the heat pump actually helps winter range. If not, it wouldn't be worth the lost space imo.

I can't recall any other vehicles I've owned with a rotary shifter, and I'll confess it took me a couple of months of daily driving to really get fluid with it and stop accidentally shifting it into Park occasionally! Truth be told, my ideal solution would be a gleaming Hurst shift lever rising majestically from the floor or console, topped with a classic ball (lovingly sculpted of some gorgeous unobtainium metal of some kind) featuring a Park lockout mechanism of some kind, located right next to the manual e-brake lever. Absent that, whether rotary dial or 3 on the tree are both just compromises I can live with if given no better choice.

Don’t hate the vehicle. I hate the 40% smaller frunk space, the lame stupor stalk, the column shifter, the elimination of the kick to open trunk, the removal of self park feature, and the removal of acoustic glass from the front side windows. There are probably others but I think you get the gist of it. ;)

The article mentions "the European 2025 Mach-E has been treated to a refreshed SYNC 4A interface" with no picture of the new interface and only the start up screen.

These & other missing accoutrements put me off swapping Stangy at the turn of the year, I’d do away with that round gear change in a heartbeat but it never was a deal breaker.

This car ?

My '20 ICE Mustang has a rotary shifter so I was already used to it when I got my '21 Mach-E. Only difference is in the ICE Mustang, the dial stops at either end which I prefer over the Mach-E's which just keeps spinning. I am also in the camp that does not like the column shifter.

Coming from an ICE Mercedes this whole conversation seems kinda silly to me. I've been using basically the exact same shifter in my Mercedes for over a decade and guess what - it's awesome! There's a reason Hyundai and GM are also moving to the shifter stalk (although GM annoyingly makes you pull it forward first, unlike Ford who did it right). I'm buying a 2025 and the shifter is definitely a positive along with the ventilated seats and heat pump. They're all great improvements

‘25 owner here, so I can’t compare to using the rotary shifter. But I kind of like the column shifter. It isn’t gimmicky like in the VW ID4 I test drove which was all about rotating the end.

My instinct is to pull the column shifter towards me first, as is how column shifters on any ICE vehicle I’ve driven work. But I’ve recently realized I don’t have to do that. It does change how I’m used to thinking about shifting, as a automatic/ICE driver who expects P-R-N-D in a straight line, but in the MME neutral is pulling towards you, reverse is up, and drive is down. Park is a little button on the end and really convenient.

My wife's car is a Mercedes, and I too prefer the Mercedes hyperstalk to the Ford dial.

I liked the ID.4 shifter when I test drove a few years ago. I found it even better than superstalks, because you push the lever in the same direction you want the car to move. That is, you push it forward or backward, rather than down or up, for forward or reverse respectively. More natural, intuitive, idiot-proof.

And that Is why I’ve reached the end of the line with the Mach-e. Odds are very close to 100% there won’t be another one in our garage.
