Documenting this just for the info of others. Not that it needs much more documentation. But I’m keeping the saga alive.
I was at the dealer yesterday getting my new hood latch actuator. I had that failure just last month and the dealer was able to follow Mach-Lee’s advice Here to get it unstuck while leaving it drivable. So yesterday the parts were in and they replaced the electronic actuator. WIN. As I left the dealer and accelerated to merge onto the freeway, I lost the snappiness of the power and got the ”Service Vehicle Soon” dash warning as well as the powertrain malfunction fordpass warning. Because I have an OBDII reader plugged in at all times I connected CarScanner and, sure enough, there is a P0ADA code. Looks like a HVBJB.
I had my original failure back in 2022 which was the first replacement my dealer had done, and another SVS warning back in October of 2024. The second SVS was cleared with some module updates and didn’t return. But I had my suspicions It wouldn’t be long before a complete failure.
I turned right back around and went back to the dealer. Not that I expected them to fix it immediately, but I’m 1000 miles from the end of my factory bumper-to-bumper warranty and I wanted the milage of the failure documented. I know the HVBJB should be included in the 100K mile powertrain, but I thought it was worth avoiding any discrepancies.
Once Again Davidson Ford of Watertown treated me right. Clarence (the mechanic they have work on my car) brought his laptop out to my car in the parking lot. He did some updates that were pending and when that didn’t clear the codes, he had the service advisor order me a new HVBJB. So I’m driving around in 1987 Toyota Corolla mode until the part arrives and I can schedule the replacement.
Big kudos and shout out to Davidson Ford for getting right to the point and taking care of me. Though it is worth pointing out that this is a relationship I’ve fostered over the last 4 years that wasn’t without growing pains. At this point I know all the Service advisors by first name and even the preferred dunkin order of a couple of them.
