SYNC-26.2.8.3 (the big SYNC update)

My neighbor just got SYNC-26.2.8.3 update on his 2022. Can any other non 2021 owners confirm they are seeing this?

Very very happy with the addition of Apple Maps preconditioning. I really thought that wasn’t going to come to us.

not sure how I feel about the phone icon though, it kind of looks weird with the rest of the other icons, but it does seem CarPlay connects much faster and I’ve had little to no issues now with it not connecting.

Too bad Apple Maps sucks for finding chargers. Mine will not list Tesla chargers without magic dock, and also lists “coming soon” chargers from PlugShare, as if they are open. They have no adapter setting like Google does, nor do they have live status for EA or Tesla.

I keep renewing the Ford nav for free, using points, so it will be better than Apple, but not as good as Google.

I might be in the minority, but I like the Ford Nav in my 2024 for road trips. If I need to take a trip that requires DC Fast Charging (DCFC), I tend to reach for the Ford Nav.

The biggest annoyance about the Ford Nav is its inability to see Superchargers. For example, I have two routes between the city where I live and the city where my parents live. One route can take advantage of a Supercharger and one uses all CCS. Ford Nav is blind to the alternative route (not completely, but close enough to make the point).

If the Big Sync Update of 2026 solves the problem, then I effectively open a new route between cities.

Of course I would love some more minor updates, but that’s off topic. For now I’m just impatiently waiting for the car to update to get the major fix

Hopefully this will be irrelevant to you soon because you'll get the Big Sync Update. But, until then, you can search for the "Tesla" or "Supercharger" as a POI near the town where you know it's located (don't search for a charger! just search by name) and save it in as a favourite. Then you can create a route using Connected Navigation that includes your favourited saved location, being the supercharger, as an intermediate stop on the route. Connected Navigation still won't plan the trip around charging there, but the car will at least precondition as you approach it. You can just ignore the other chargers that Connected Navigation puts in instead.

That's what I did up until July 12, 2026, when I got the Big Sync Update.

I do prefer Connected Navigation over anything else for road trips. I sure wish we had Ford Power My Trip back so we could plan trips in the Ford App again!

I’m a fan of the built-in nav, too. If you dig into it a bit, it has a lot of nice features that are just a tap away. One I really like is the Up Ahead feature that lets you see, by category, what’s coming up on your route. So, I can see where the next chargers, rest stop, coffee shop, or whatever is. I haven’t seen Apple or Google Maps do a great job with this while en-route.

I like how you can have “up ahead” categories permanently displayed, like coffee and fast chargers. Did they increase the number of categories to four now? I don’t remember it being four.

I got the update yesterday and tried it out today in my garage. I set up the adpater needed setting and searched for fast chargers (>120kw). First thing I noticed is that it brings up a Tesla site near me that is TESLA ONLY. That site has a mix of V2 and V3 chargers, so it does indicate up to 250kw, but Tesla does not allow other EVs to charge at those sites. I did not do a check to see if it brings up sites with V2 only, I suspect not.

My other EVs, which have faster charging and are better for road tripping, have Google Maps built in. Our Mach E has become my wife's local car and she just uses the built in nav.

I do not want to change my phone just because of lousy Ford software.

Buying an Android phone and using Google Maps is a real option that most iPhone people don’t consider. But honestly I’d rather not use any phone for executing a trip. If prefer to use my phone or iPad to *plan* a trip, then I’d like to execute it without relying on my phone. Too bad about Ford Power My Trip that was a wonderful workflow!

BTW I just checked and after this upgrade Tesla Superchargers finally now show up in the list of chargers inside Ford Navigation. Thank you @Ford Motor Company!
