Hi all,
We recently got the HOV stickers and have not put them on yet as we don't need to around here on the central coast. We do have a trip planned to SoCAL in June and I'll need the sticker(s) on for part of the trip when I'm driving solo. I'd really rather not permanently apply them though if possible. From an aesthetics perspective they're fairly ugly (IMHO). So here's my question:

Has anyone applied their CA HOV stickers temporarily and then taken them off? If so how did you do it?

I was wondering about the feasibility of applying some clear packing tape onto the ppf (front of car) and paint (rear of car) then applying the HOV stickers to the tape.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions.

I live in NY and applied HOV stickers to my Mach E. They are not designed to be removable and can damage the paint. I purchased from Amazon die cut protective film made for the NY stickers. Easy to remove. I didn't check, but possibly available for your state.

The California ones are fugly, and there's like 4 of them. We were just out there and couldn't believe how they looked.

You can put FFP on Amazon that is designed for this use case. The film is the same shape at the HOV stickers. You can remove it without any damage

Thanks. I do have those PPF pieces. Are they relatively easy to take off when not needed?

I removed one to reposition it a few weeks after first putting it on with no issue, but haven't regularly taken them off

I've never put mine on because of how ugly they look, I would just do the passenger side, but you spurred me to check for a solution, this might work, I'm going to give it a go! It says in the FAQ it is compatible with the MME.

I used the PPF and only affixed the rear ones on the bumper. The front ones look way too horrible in any position on the GT. Rolling the dice with no front stickers (or license plate), but it seems to be low risk...

I just checked and none of the frontal areas of the MME are steel. The rear quarter panel, yes.

This is how I put mine on, using PPF:

#121

Don't think that just having the stickers in the car is sufficient to avoid an HOV violation. A number of people have found out the hard way that if the sticker isn't on the car, they can get cited.

I used these: https://twraps.com/products/2022-hov-stickers-ppf-tint

You can just get the ones that go in between the stickers and the car, or you can get tinted PPF as well to go over the top of it all to tone down the bright neon green color.

I was rear-ended not long after applying them and the rear ones came right off easily - removed them so I wouldn't have to pay for replacements on the new bumper. Haven't put them back on yet, but I will the next time I go on a trip that takes me through HOV corridors.

Thanks. I've got those ppf pieces but wasn't sure how easy they would be to remove when not using them.

I wouldn't try to reuse them over and over. But for applying, removing once, and applying again, they should be fine. If you're looking for a completely removable solution so that your MME is only "wearing" them when they're needed, then the magnets probably work best for the rears. Just don't forget to take them off or they'll disappear.

Good point. Thanks again.
