That's certainly a high number given the transaction price it's going for, but for now not entirely surprising. As others noted, they are working from a high number of preorders and early adopters, will be interesting to see where it stands in another year when it isn't the new thing and is being cross shopped instead of targeted.

Hopefully the added competition and choices improves the next gen Lightning and lowers pricing. As the EV Silverado gets out there more it will be an even stronger headwind for the CT/Lightning/R1T. I hope the sales in the truck segment grow in a way that encourages companies to keep investing.

Amazing how many people want to advertise that they are the village idiot.

The CyberTruck is distinctive. The Lighting is a F-150 with different type of "engine" under the hood. I expect many CyberTruck buyers want a distinctive vehicle. Just like others who bought Hummers. They want to stand out as they drive around town. The YouTube "influencers" are similar. They need something to comment on to keep their channel alive.
How many of you still have people asking if you are driving one of those electric Mustangs? I have had mine for 3 years and still get inquiries.

Gotcha but I would tend to think that happened in Q1 not Q2.
Ya, it's half a joke anyway.

But honestly the surprising thing is that I'm pretty sure the only CTs they're selling are still Foundation Series (what are they? like $120k+?).

I had a guy on Saturday ask me if it has the ecoboost 4 cyl in it. I don't think he realized at all that it was electric until I told him. Of course he hadn't seen me drive or "heard" it yet at that point.

I’m honestly not sure, just surprised it is out selling the Lightnings at any price.

I'm not surprised due to the number of preorders and the crowd that likes to be seen as well as the folks that will buy a Tesla bc it is a Tesla.

The folk that will likely purchase a Lightning are likely the normal Ford buyer who wants to go electric. If you're a Youtube or Instagram influencer or you want to be really seen, you're not getting the Lightning.

Early days of Lightning sales were brisk and selling over MSRP. I remember YouTube videos showing up during the early days along with a 200K back order list stated by Ford. I am not sure where the back orders are these days but I don't think they have sold that many since they started selling. If I remember sales correctly 2022 was around 15K, in 23 it was 25K and so far in 2024 it's over 15K so in total around 40K still pretty far from the 200K stated back in 2021. If Tesla sells over 15K in 2024 in the early days, it would at least match Ford and be far ahead of GM and Rivian during similar time periods.

I suspect CT sales have peaked at the current prices. I was offered a Foundations Series recently and I only threw in a CT order in late 2023 so approximately 1M pre-orders before me passed.

It doesn't help that Ford reduced the incentives on the Lightning and for me to buy one today compared to the spring... would be $10K more.
