To unpack all of this, we were joined by Elon, Inc. regulars Dana Hull, Max Chafkin and Kurt Wagner. Among the topics:
Tesla is throttling its supercharger network, which could have repercussions for the entire electric vehicle industry, since brands other than Tesla have deals to use the charging technology. There is no sign that Ford or General Motors, which have deals with Tesla to use their charging networks, will be backing out over the news.

Firing this team could bolster the idea that Musk is putting all of his eggs in the robotaxi basket. With EV sales down, there’s less of a need for Tesla to expand the existing supercharger network. But this could have ramifications for future growth, especially since this division did seem to have a clear upside for the company.

Over on X, the decision to reinstate Fuentes seems to have come right after a rather casual Musk tweet.

While Fuentes might boost engagement in some ways, it doesn’t seem likely to be a plus for advertisers, who traditionally don’t want their content next to controversial fare. But maybe it’s a kind of cover for Musk, who had already seen advertising decline under his tenure.

New metric alert: “unregretted user minutes” on X. None of the panel seemed to be exactly sure what Musk meant when he posted about that.

This week, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey left the board of Twitter clone Bluesky. With Dorsey posting more on X, it seems like he is abandoning the former—does he think X is still the platform to be on?

In addition to going over the potential feud between Rowling and Musk, we also discussed an innovation in feud watch—feud power rankings. Watch this space to learn if, say, Mark Cuban is back in the proverbial ring with Musk, or we have a new entrant to the field.
