Ok, so I successfully tested my NACS adapter at a Tesla supercharging station. However, at the front of each charging stall is a sign that says "Tesla Vehicles Only". So, I'm wondering what happens if while I'm charging there a person from a Tesla approaches me and points to the sign and tells me to leave. Do I just blow him off? Do I tell him things have changed?

How would you react to this? Because we all know it's going to happen.

Option 2. Things have changed and Tesla welcomes other brands to pay for charging. Point them at Tesla’s web site’s charging section. ??

This far along, I think most of the Tesla groupies understand we are paying cutomers, just like them. I get a few side eye glances; but have yet had someone confront me. I wouldn't even worry about it.

The best move in any situation where you are challenged is to say "Call the cops" and start recording them on video. I've never had any challenge continue after saying those 3 words with my phone recording them.

The only time I had a Tesla owner talk to me at a charger was when he came up to ask about my adapter. He was polite and seemed genuinely interested, and said he only bought his Tesla because of the charging network, and now that it's open to other brands, would consider switching. We can educate them one at a time!

I believe this has been discussed often. They aren't legal signs first of all. Second, they were created before the charging network was opened, so they're outdated. Third, inform the Tesla owner that non-Tesla's (per Tesla website for that specific charger) are permitted. If they persist, tell them to call cops or do it yourself, or ignore them.

I had a brand-T fanboi unplug my Mustang at one. I don't leave the vehicle (unless it's to walk around nearby, quickly grab a to-go meal, or to quickly use the restroom) when I'm charging on their chargers.

That could also be interpreted as an attempt to keep folks from ICE-ing an EV charging spot.

The new signs Tesla put at/on the pedestal is the reason I interpret it that way

This is not aimed at us (non Tesla EVs). This is letting ICE vehicles know not to park there. Here in California, in order to tow a car that is an ICE vehicle parked in an EV stall, there has to be a sign like that warning them not to park there.

Now if a Tesla owner comes up to you and tells you its "Tesla only" you have a few options based on how much of a ahole you want to be.....

1) Educate: Tesla has opened it up for non Tesla vehicles to charge. I will move when I complete charging.

2) Ignore: Don't acknowledge him and honestly another Tesla owner will educate them and hopefully remind them that Tesla owners ROUTINELY charge at non Tesla chargers of which we have less than them.

3) *not for the faint of heart and only if he is being an ass towards you* Tell them that if I am charging, then clearly I am allowed to be here and that he can take his head and shove it up his butt and see if it fits. Meanwhile I will be continuing to charge.

LOL

My first Tesla charge, a Tesla driver rolled down the window and tried to direct me to the “non- Tesla” charge area. Then I showed him my adapter and he gave a me a look. So I proceeded to charge and told him he had a nice little Tesla 3, asked him why he didn’t have a S Plaid, he shut up and rolled up his window. I took took the “W”

Match their energy. If they approach in a friendly matter asking about your car or adapter enjoy the polite conversation.

If they come up in full Karen mode laugh at them. They may own a Tesla but that's it. They don't own the superchargers and they have no authority over how the superchargers are being used.
