That's not a Mustang

So I was at the store today and some old guy was admiring my MME. When came out he asked, "What is this, is that a palomino?" I said, "No, it's a Mustang Mach-e" he said, "That's not a Mustang, must be a palomino" I said, "I'm not getting into the Mustang debate, I didn't name it, the people that created Mustang did, and they say it's a Mustang so that's good enough for me" and he stops then says, "Oh, you're serious, it really is a Mustang?" and then the conversation proceeded positively. He wasn't a "It's not a Mustang" person, he honestly didn't know it was a Mustang ? Oh and now he wants one. ?

What the heck is it with you guys, you literally have to tell us over and over again that somebody says it isn’t a real Mustang, damn give it a break, it’s getting real old fast!

I picked up my GT PE yesterday, and today had a NEMA 14 - 50 installed. Tomorrow I will drive it to work for the first time. I am sure I will get all the daft comments.

The first day we got it, the wife and I swung by her Dad’s place. He was pretty skeptical about it being an EV until he drove it. Then he said “This thing is awesome. My first car was a Mustang, it’s so cool that you guys have a Mustang too. I love seeing that logo on the steering wheel”.

It’s a Mustang.

Agreed. I did not like them calling a four door car a mustang. Calling it a mach is adding insult to injury to those who owned a mach 1.

We are in the 3rd model year for the Mustang Mach-e and still having discussions on whether it's a Mustang. My guess, this conversation will never end. The Mustang is Ford's iconic brand. There's ICE and EV versions. There's a 2 door coupe/convertible and SUV. There will eventually be a 4 door Mustang. The 2024. Mustang is great. It should be, Ford has been building them since 1965. The Mach-e is a good car, but it's only been around for 3 years. It needs improvement, better interior / instrumentation, longer range, shorter charging times, lower cost. It will get there, but yes, the Mach-e is a Mustang.

But to be fair, we do seem to be the most extreme example of “what’s in a name?”

We took a rwd gas powered coupe and made it an AWD electric SUV.

I scoured the inter webs to see if any other manufacturer has made a vehicle with the same name be sooooo different and couldn’t think of anything.
