Okay, minor update. Had the car back just shy of a week, no problems. I might actually love my car more, because I had driven a 2016 Focus for a week, and it's just nice to have a car that doesn't struggle to get up to speed.

Gotta love that 'get up and go' feeling. Hoping I get the call tomorrow from RAV team and can ask for a replacement.

Big update:. Just took a longish trip, 240 miles round trip to drive my little sister home 4 counties away. DC fast charged twice at the same ChargePoint charger, once on the way up, once on the way back. Everything went perfectly. When the infrastructure gets a little more built out in two years or less, even the SR AWD will be perfectly suitable for road tripping. I don't think anyone really needs to drive more than 150 miles without stopping. I think I could have only charged once during the trip, had there been a charger closer to my mid point/destination, or I was willing to push the edge or not use climate or slowed down. Total time with charging for the trip was 5 hours approximately.

No one needs to drive 150 miles without stopping? Oof.

You just turned a 1 day drive into 2 days for someone driving long distances. That’s significant.

In Florida, tons of people coming here and back from up north. 8-12 hour driving days are typical.

Sure, you could stop for 40 minutes every 150 miles, but it would add significant time to the trip.

Here is what the dealer suggested to me to do if this happens again:

Ford Mustang Mach-E The beginning....I'm concerned. What to Do Next

PS They did not succeed with jumping the battery. I actually instructed them to disconnect and reconnect the battery. Only then did the car go into gear, but it still had error codes that needed to be addressed there solution was to update the module. essentially there was a software glitch that made the powertrain module discharge the high voltage battery when plugged into a high voltage charger. The update supposedly fixed the issue. Here is the additional documentation I left with:

"Smart Cars" just need a software update, ha! I am a bit upset that this appears to be listed as a recall, yet the FordPass app indicates no issues for me, and also does not mention this service record?

I agree, and I don't think the charging infrastructure is going to get measurably better anytime soon. In the meantime, tons of new EVs are coming to market and soon even a sparse travel day could mean waiting for hours to charge because all the chargers are full. What happens during Thanksgiving week? Holy crap. I am not doing that.

We may be coming down to your state in a couple months and if we drive we definitely will not be taking my MME. I don't think the extra stress is worth it. And even with our ICE car it will be a 11 hour drive.

My use case may be unique, and I don't really see myself making a 500+ mile drive any time soon. I think charging infrastructure will grow by leaps and bounds in California in the next two years. That being said, I will consider a second ICE vehicle in about a year.

Well, no, my HVJB and BECM were toast and needed to be replaced. This wasn't a software or IPC issue. I never had the IPC not turning off issue.

I said I don't think anyone needs to, YMMV. However, it's not super often that people need to do this. If in your use case, you do, then don't get this car.

For me, at least for the next year or so, this will likely be my daily driver and only car. If I need to take a super long road trip, and I need to do it with a minimum of stops, I'll rent a car. My use case is mainly commuting.

My 240+ mile road round trip I only had to stop twice, once for an hour (and it took that long to go to the bathroom, decide what to eat, wait for the pizza, and eat, and do another freshing up), and another 17 minute stop (get a drink, go to bathroom). Would it have shaved an hour off my time if all I had to do would be gas up once? Sure. But, the whole wait to charge thing is phrased as being worse than it is by many people.

Here's the thing: I don't think gas prices are going to get much better in California. Burning petroleum products is bad for the environment.
So overall, it's still a better value proposition, and makes me feel better about using a car for transportation, for me to have this be my only car.

I'm also just saying that it is possible to road trip in this car, and I have the lowest possible range (Select AWD). People can build cars with longer range, but that's not the real solve, because these cars with shorter range still exist. We need more public Fast DC charging, and quickly.

I have the car, I just use my wife’s car for road trips.

For example, tomorrow: Driving to Sea World for the day.

It’s 110 miles from home. We aren’t taking the Mach E.

We take the Flex- no issues, don’t even have to refuel.

Mach E? We have to make an unnecessary stop somewhere to charge, and the charging network isn’t great in Florida. Don’t want to have my first DC charge experience go poorly either. maybe I could barely make the round trip, but with I-4 and unknown traffic……. Range anxiety ain’t worth it.

I don't think it is possible to build enough chargers to make 100% transition to electric feasible. You will need as many DCFC stations as we have gas stations now, maybe more. IMO the only solution is 600 mile range EVs. If we can go 600 miles between charges, and we can charge at our destination, almost nobody will need a DCFC station. I don't see that happening for another 10 years. In the meantime, there will be lots of 200 mile range cars fighting for the tiny number of chargers available.

I used to think we could be a EV only household. Not anymore. Not after what I have experienced in my MME. Which I still love, by the way.
