Note for clarification: The VDM DTC problem only affects GT-PE trim level cars as they are the only ones equipped with Magnaride.
Sorry to dig up an old message, but does this persistent VDM DTC only happen after a specific module is updated, or does it happen after using FDRS in general?

I'm mainly interested in updating my GWM and APIM to get CarPlay EV Routing, so I won't mess with any other modules if that DTC is tied to a specific module.

Well it seemed for about a year that it was always there during FDRS programming sessions. But the last two times I’ve done updates the VDM wasn’t showing any DTCs at all. So maybe they fixed the issue with one of the recent updates.

Thank you for the clarification. I think I'll give FDRS a go. Fair warning, I might be reaching out if I mess it up!

Just wrapped up a short session with FDRS that was mostly uneventful. The only thing that gave me some worry was the ACM.

FDRS indicated that programming the ACM failed, and I tried it twice. Canceling the update after the 2nd failure and clearing DTCS seemed to indicate all was fine. Radio still works, and the updated disappeared from my list so I guess it updated successfully? Perhaps some issue with the update routine since all modules are showing green in the network test?

If your AM radio works then you should be good.

Lightnings have had an ACM that won't update for about 6 months now. And many also have an RFA that refuses to update or drop off the list. ?‍♂

Thanks for the reassurance!

Does that initial fear of doing an update via FDRS ever go away? I've done it a handful of times and think I have a handle on it, but I still hold my breath a bit with every module update.

I don't really worry about it anymore. I know what to do when hiccups happen now, and have seen most everything that can happen. So I'm pretty comfortable.

The only time I "fear" FDRS is when I'm working on someone else's ride. I never have issues with my truck. However, most of the time I try to help someone out with something, FDRS turns into Shaq at the free throw line laying up bricks. Even then, I wouldn't call it fear...... it's more of an annoyance at this point.

On that, a friend of mine did the FDRS update on my car yesterday. I sat in driver’s seat and pushed start button on/off, opened/closed door and rear deck on one update, and switched off the auto shut down under vehicle settings, all on command while my friend did the brain work on the computer. All 10 updates that Mike G had noted were successfully updated with nothing new showing as of this morning. “We”, really my friend as I was more or less taking up space, also got Beosonic enabled and it actually works. Only open issues are two error codes, one for CMR, other for IPMA. They are related to the known Blue Cruise issue plaguing some cars that Ford is suppose to be pushing a software fix out for by end of Q1 2025. Doesn’t seem likely that’s happening. Otherwise life is good!

We have a '24 & a '23...I just updated the '24 and am on the latest SYNC and all the rest of the USB updates. Meanwhile, the '23 didn't even have any USB updates available despite clearly being on older software than the '24. Is it just a matter of Ford pushing the updates to the older model years? I assumed the OTAs were slow but that the FDRS side was the same

My '23 model has a new set of powertrain updates available this morning. This falls in line with the normal "Update Friday" release for many of the MMEs updates.

If you didn't see any GVMS warnings that were holding updates back, it is very possible Ford hasn't released everything for that vehicle yet. It happens a lot. FDRS won't help to get you fully updated if that's the case; only as updated as what has been released for it.

I have been using FDRS successfully for many months. I thought recently that I saw a post indicating there may be some updates that ford won’t allow individuals to do with FDRS - you have to take it to the dealer. Is that the case? If so, is there a way to identify them so I know to schedule an appointment with the dealer?
