Looks like I also need to update BCM and GCM software via FDRS in addition to APIM. I only updated APIM, oops! When I sign up for the 2-day license can I simply target those two items only to achieve frunk opening?
Yes, you can pick whatever updates you want. Some updates trigger others that much follow, but a pop up will appear saying "this will trigger more updates that must be done" blah, blah. I believe it is mainly the PCM that does this. Just knock out out all the remaining updates, the APIM takes the longest and you already did it lol.

Any recommendation for the power supply I would need during the update. So many to choose from?

Honestly, I'm the bad guy here and have only used my power supply once during the IPMA updates that took forever. Since then, I've never used a power supply and have never had my 12v drop below like 12.6v or something. After a particularly long update, I just turn my car fully on (as updates make you turn the ignition on, but engine off), to ensure my 12v gets topped off. But I don't even think that is necessary - at the end of the update it tells you to turn the car off and then the next update you turn it on (engine off), and my 12v just spikes back up to the 13v/14v or whatever it sits at.

I took no chance and got the Clore PL6100. It's a great tool to have around.

IPMA updates will roast your battery without a suitable power supply. I had a 20A maintainer and that couldn't even keep up with the load on the 12V battery.

Haha I used the same one and my battery still dropped to under 12V when I did the IPMA updates, I was freakin' out, but survived! That's also probably why I just don't even bother to use it.

I purchased the Clore PL6100 and have been very happy with it.

Really? That thing can put out 100 amps. I haven’t seen mine draw more than about 36 amps.

I think he was referencing my comment about using a 20A battery maintainer.

Yeah, I jumped the gun and should have clarified. I bought the Clore 20 amp battery maintainer and it, understandably, couldn't handle the power!

I’ve thought about just helping people out, for free, but know I’ll just have the luckiest day ever and brick someone’s car and get punched in the face.

I would gladly take you up on that if you were in Michigan. LOL

Anyone in Michigan that can update my MME? I'll pay for FDRS 2 day license.

Thank you

I weight the cost of an FDRS subscription against the inconvenience of being without my car. And it seems I may have a higher likelihood of successfully installing updates.

You have explained the whole reason I bought the needed equipment.

I spent just over $600 on the needed equipment and another $150 so far in 2 day FDRS license fees.

My car cost nearly $60000 all in. $600 is just another 1%.

I would have spent more paying the dealer for updates, more in my lost time, more in aggravation for sure.

The improvement in PAAK alone after applying the RFA update is worth the entire cost.
