I really do not know if Ford is going to continue producing MME in a few years time. They hinted about a redesign of its EV platform.
IIRC the current MME has its base from the C2 platform used in the ICE vehicles such as Escape and Focus. Therefore I can understand Ford will want to have a pure EV platform. You can kinda notice it with its lack of utility space compared to the Model Y and the Ioniq5/EV6 cars. Polestar 2 being worse retaining the central tunnel.

EV tech continues to evolve. First to go will be the J1772/CCS port by 2025 in favour of the Tesla's NACS. So yeah perhaps used MachE prices will be depressed by then. Good deal to nab one then I guess. It's a pretty good car hampered by mediocre MMI IMHO.

ā€œDespite a fewsoftware "bumps in the road" it has been a great car for me. Love to drive it. The instant torque is addicting. You will see, when your forced to drive an ICE after an electric.

Sounds like from your description your life was built for an EV. Don't wait!!! Go used in this current landscape. ā€

I agree — pounce on a good used Mach-E now while prices are depressed. I purchased a use ā€˜21 that had been in service for 2.5 years and had only 17k miles, making it eligible for a Ford Factory extended warranty, which I also purchased. With over the air updates, that car seems to be getting better rather than older. Oh, charging at home is a real game changer.

Upgraded my Select to a GT. Love the additional rage of the extended battery.

I would say wire for a 60 amp (for future proofing, you never know)but use a 40 amp breaker for the stock 32 amp EVSE that Ford gives you with a new Mach E, it will be plenty for your daily trip.
There are a lot of good deals and discounts now so waiting is not an option.
The next thing to do in preparation is pick out the color and style of the racing strip mod!
Oh and Mach Es are very smooth and very fast, mine just had a Subaru (road rager) for dinner! I think it's the one pedal brake lights that sets them off.
Mine is a 2021 and has not given me and problems.

Good to read this thread. Moving on buying a 2023 GT and reading the complaints on this forum which I was awared before coming here, started to question my decision.
Anyways, living in North Georgia mountains with ev charger at home and retired. I would say I loved the way the car looks and loved it when I test drove it.
Probably pulling the trigger next week, any advise would be appreciated.

If you can find a super deal on a 23 GTPE I would highly recommend! Purchased mine early March and has been a blast!

3 months in (3 weeks and counting of shop time) and I regret trading my loyal explorer of 7 years. I had a ton of anxiety switching to EV and unfortunately most of my worries have come to pass. The Mach E is beautiful inside and out but as the old saying goes ā€œlooks aren’t everything.ā€

Cold weather performance is horrendous unless you follow a 20 step process of scheduling departures, setting your fan speed just right and running near air conditioning temps (god forbid you hit a headwind on a cold winter day) - I miss jumping in the car and going without thinking twice.

Additionally, Ford has proved incapable of supporting EVs from a service and software management standpoint.

If presented the option, I would return the keys and drive away in my old Explorer.

this is my first EV. I tried Ioniq 5 for 2 months between my MME GT and CR1 and no regrets coming back to MME. I do not have any regrets switching from ICE household to EV household, I just plan my road trips carefully. I had to cancel trip only once since I did not feel that infrastructure is good enough (1.5 years), but with Tesla SC opening it would not happen today. The issue I had with the my MMEs were one that I expected and touched almost everyone: High voltage box, but luckily for me car continue running so I could complete my trips and come to dealership for fix on my own.

right now about the worth: the car is addicting. as soon as i got my 1st MME '21 CR1 RWD my wife demanded another one for herself, but with better trim so we've got '21 GT. today I took my daughter for her 1st behind the wheel freeway ride and she already stated that tomorrow she wants to go for 220 miles roundtrip (of course she drives). so be careful to share the car.

it's a great car, just be ready that EV travel requires some planning. right now we use ABRP and Plug-Share to prepare for trips, no idea what software we are going to use in 2 years.

Upgraded from a Select AWD to a GTPE, love my car. However, if I was in the market at the time you will be, with your requirements, I would take a long look at a Kia EV 9. I test drove a GT-Line, and it nice, has a huge interior, gets decent range. Buying used is definitely the way to go, but I would say look for something with less than 10k on the clock, get an OBD Bluetooth unit, and the Car Scanner app on your phone, when buying used, check the HVB state of health via car scanner. The Mach-E is a really good car though.

I love the looks of the EV9 so it may be my next car when I move on from the mach e.

as an FYI starting in the second half of 23, the portable EVSE is now a $500 option. While I used the portable for eighteen months on my 21, I upgraded to a juicebox 40.And I now have a 23. GT I would not spend $500 for the portable evse just not robust enough.

I love driving my 2023 Mach-E RWD Extended Range. I drive 120-150 miles (190-290 km) a day, charge overnight at home, and it’s great.
In a couple years, the MME will probably be re-platformed, so you’ll have to think about that. In fact, things may be very different in a couple years because the rate of battery innovation is high.
I tried the KIA/Hyundai offerings, Tesla, and VW.
The Ioniq and EV6 are fun to drive and charge really fast, but I charge at home and they didn’t have wireless CarPlay. They also get no tax credit in the USA.
Tesla gets just about everything right, but the lack of an instrument cluster, hard buttons and CarPlay didn’t work for me. Where I live they are so ubiquitous that I also didn’t want to look like everyone else. Finally, I dislike dark grey wheels and that’s all they had at the time.
The Mustang Mach-E matches the Tesla Model Y in almost every spec. Their dealer was closest to me, so it was the first car I looked at. I liked the torque, which really only the Tesla matches. I didn’t know that EVs only meet their ā€œup toā€ fast charging spec when in the 10%-20% range, but it turned out to not be an issue. I almost never use a fast charger, and if I do it’s just a top-up of 10 min or so.
The VW ID.4 is also a decent vehicle, but I found it a little underpowered. I was also worried about range, but after driving one for a while it would be fine. That was kind of my overall impression: it’s fine.
The tiebreaker for me was I found a Ford dealer that would match the Tesla Model Y price and at the time had a 0% interest promotion. With the price cuts and credits rolled out in the past few months I may have gone a different way.
My message to you is that everything is in flux right now. GM, VW and Hyundai/KIA have standard platforms, but the others won’t until 2026-2028. It’s fun to dream, just know what is available in a few years may be very different from what is available now.
My prediction for the EU is that the Puma and Explorer EVs will be very popular. You’re going to have a lot of new options in short order. (Lucky!)

I agree with @NC-GT about a GT-PE. Magneride and bigger brakes are worth the small upcharge. The first mod I did to my car (while it was still the dealer’s car, before I test drove it) was to swap the rear wiper blade to a 15ā€ Trico 15-G. The stock blade is a joke. ??
