Oh, thanks for that. THAT changes my entire setup.

Is there a way to take low level preamp signal just for the sub woofer and leave rest of the setup as is (B&O)? I currently have a setup where I took the high level input to lc2i and to my amp but I am not liking it.
Not according to PAC, as you disconnect the factory B&O amp entirely.

This little $250 JBL DSP amp is probably one of the best bang for the buck car stereo items out there. Once I'm done playing with it in the F150, I'll play with it in the MME on the stock speakers. It's about twice as powerful as the factory amp, but with 8 channel DSP / EQ control. I had it setup in a testing room and outside of the fact it can't power a sub worth owning, it was able to match my audio control D5.1300 in terms of mids/highs.

I sat in a Lexus with the Mark Levison sound package. Drastic difference in sound quality. I haven’t had the pleasure of hearing the Volvo dynaudio system or burmiester Benz package to compare.
I have a new Lexus with the ML. To me it sounds about the same as my MME Premium.

Working with PAC Audio, the AP4-FD31 when plugged into USB is seen by windows 10. The AmpPRO software however won’t connect to the unit. The lights on the unit are solid red and blinking orange which indicates usb connectivity.

UPDATE: Unit is being RMA to Pac Audio. It appears to be revision R1.1.15 . The most current revision is R1.1.17 which has an important update. "Some" Ford trucks the audio doesn't start when the vehicle is turned on. PAC has not seen this on the MachE.

I have selected AMPS & DSP(s) (updated in original post)

JL Audio , Zapco for amps and Audio Control for DSP.

@ElectricPony Looking forward to seeing your installation and how it all gets connected. Please provide pictures and a write up. I have only done the theoretical research on how to set this up. Definitely want to learn from the real world installation. Tips, tricks and best methods. I am just waiting on the six channel Audio Control amp with DSP to go on sale.

Are you going with six channel or eight channels? I think most people are doing individual in the front and combined in the rear, so it is a six channel. My preferred method since eight channel amps are very expensive

The reason I don’t run the tweeters as active (and take two channels of the amp) is because it’s wasteful of a channel. 1” soft dome tweeters only need 15-20 watts rms. I run a passive 12db slope (tweeter/woofer) and it only uses 1 channel. Personally I find a passive crossover has a smoother roll-off between tweeter and woofer than active/active.

I don’t perceive anyone doing this however, if you run a full size tweeter like say a dynaudio Esotar E110 the 20 watts rms doesn’t apply. This is a full size home audio tweeter that very much warrants its own channel and a lot of power . Different league of product.

You can still tune a Xover component with the DSP. It opens up a lot of options. In my room test I was pulling 5db out of the JL C3s. The Alpine X has full run to the 6x9s but they're not able to produce highs so it's really moot. Using the DSP really changes things vs running discrete channels. I've found nothing of note in going with more expensive D class amps -- they're all typically full of multiple Ti or equivalent mosfets.

Running C2 coaxial rears I was pulling 3db out of them above 2khz, down 6 above 12khz. Still have a few things to catch up on. I've got multiple machines on different OSs and the firmware file for the AP4. Find it odd that it requires a dip switch to be thrown for the MME alone. Will update once I get the amp in -- it's plug and play at this point due to prior prep. I'll run it all flat and tune again though since there's no comparison between free-air in a box room at center vs timing and the vehicle's wildly different acoustics. Do keep in mind that the AP4 wants a shared ground to the amp. It's funny how they still powered it via the vehicle's harness. The vehicle uses dual B+ and grounds, the AP4 only uses 1ea. I pulled out wires from the speaker harness that weren't used and added back to the vehicle harness for a 20a accessory to use in place of the amp on its circuit.

I went w/ the D5.1300 which will put out ~680w to feed the 2 10TW3s which measure a hair under 1.9ohms w/ D8 coils. I've changed the truck's battery variables and the DC/DC which is what runs the 12v system is easy to keep at 15v. Since it's powered from the 280v battery, it will happily run 220a at 15v w/out blinking. It's interesting to watch it work, I've got it to load a constant 160a at 15v which registers a hair over 8 amps on the HV circuit. The AC compressor can pull 12 amps. I love this truck.

Here's the C3s installed on the A-pillar (F150)

I have decided to build the sound quality system I’ve always wanted. All speakers (except subwoofer) will be dynaudio.

Pony,

Just finished reading through this thread for the first time. There is a lot of terminology I am unfamiliar with. Any recommendations as to where I can look or what I can read of technical info to educate myself on sound systems.? Thanks.

Some basic math for subwoofer enclosure size, ohms law, rms, peak etc

I have 25 years of experience, however a lot of my knowledge was earned “on the job”. Mistakes are the most valuable teaching resource (especially when they are costly ones!)
