Trip planning/FordPass (Question)

Planning a trip tomorrow morning and the FordPass app scheduled one stop with a charge to 74%. I sent the trip to the car and was wondering if the car will know to stop charging at 74%, or will I have to watch the SOC? Thanks.

As far as I know, the car won't stop itself for what you're asking. The nav is recommending to charge to *at least* 74%, but more would just get you to your destination with a slightly higher remaining charge.

No, it won't stop charging. Stop it yourself at 80%.

You should review the proposed charging location in PlugShare also. And charge to 100% before departing.

With FordNav, ABRP, etc., I always use the target charge as "directional" and see if by charging in a bit more (up to ~80%,) if I can even knock out a charge stop along the way. I have found those apps tend to be (rightfully) conservative, and I can sometimes eliminate a stop.

It might mean adding a little more risk by driving to a lower SOC, but if you are watching your driving and consumption, you can adjust,

On one of my last trips, I did a "top-off" (to 80%) stop that was not needed per FordNav, but I was heading to an area for 2-3 days without chargers and wanted to avoid having to make a special trip to charge.

With each road trip, I'm getting more confident, but Plugshare and even the native charger apps are critical so you know what you can rely on.

As others have said, you can charge as you wish. Depending on your state (speed limit) and wind conditions, you should get all the charge that you can (up to 80%) if you are unsure. I found/learned that my range was not very close to what the car originally estimated. I live in a state where the speed limit is 80 MPH...with mountains...and a headwind...

I've found 75mph or below to be the sweet spot for the best mileage in my 2022 standard range. If I get much above 75, it really takes a hit on range. I'm actually enjoying setting the speed a bit below the rest of the traffic an using Blue Cruise. Makes for a less stressful drive.

I have found the Ford planner to be pretty accurate. Personally I never charge to 80% unless I am eating at a long stop or really need it. The longer you charge, the slower it gets. I took a trip in my Rivian this weekend, and on the return trip I did a short charge 16% to 50% at one stop then 12% to 60% at the next stop. It kept the charging rate in the sweet spot.

The chargers I were at were also very full with long lines, so it helps everyone to be courteous and get done faster.
