TSB IMPA Updates

Has anyone heard of this for a '21 Mach E Premium? My dealer requested that I pay $904.50 for this software update before a diagnostic could be performed to correct an issue with my rear cross traffic system. I refused, contending that any software update is the responsibility of the manufacturer. The issue was resolved, however the dealer continues to keep it on my record every time that I bring my car in. By the way, it has 30K miles and I am the second owner. Any ideas? Thanks!

You could update all the modules in your car way cheaper yourself and you can borrow rugedraw's Mongoose adapter to really make it affordable. Updating one module for that kind of money is ridiculous.

Not sure if you can get Ford's premium extended service plan, but it might be worth reaching out to Granger, Flood, etc. for quotes. TSBs should be covered under premium ESPs.

Also, what's wrong with your cross traffic system?

First, try another dealer, if you have one available nearby.

Second, unless you have an extended warranty, TSBs are not covered by the manufacturer, software or otherwise. TSBs are basically just instructions on how to fix a known, identified issue - if someone is actually experiencing that issue. They aren't recalls.

Like mentioned, you could potentially perform all of the updates yourself with FDRS. There is some level of investment on your part (or you could post in one of the regional forums and see if anyone around you already has the equipment and would be nice enough to help you out.

I should have clarified that TSBs are covered if the dealer recreates the issue and sees that there's something that can address the condition that the customer is reporting. Since the dealer said there's a TSB for the IPMA, I'd imagine that should OP get an ESP, the identified TSB should be covered. That said, even if the TSB is covered by the ESP, there's nothing stopping the dealer from insisting the customer pay first.

Thanks for the info. My extended warranty through AAGI denied reimbursement when the dealer inquired about it. At least I now know that it’s not a software update (as I was told by the dealer) that would compromise the value of my car,

Ford extended service plans would cover related fixes addressed by a TSB. Third party extended warranties typically do not.

If the issue wouldn't be addressed by a software update, then why is the dealership bringing it up?

For the most part, yes. But your warranty should still be active, so it will cover most software updates when troubleshooting or resolving problems (wouldn't necessarily cover going in and demanding they update your car because newer updates "exist").

But the FDRS and updating things yourself and all of that should be exactly the same.
