I currently own a Tesla Model S from more than 8 years ago. The home charger that I use is the original one.

I am currently waiting for the arrival of my Mach-E, which was supposed to be in production last week. I have read conflicting information about whether the Tesla charger can be used to charge the Mach-E. Some have said no, there is something in the Tesla chargers that blocks other non-Teslas from being able to charge. Others have said it is as simple as getting the right adapter.

Does anyone know definitively if i) the NEMA 14-50 that powers the Tesla home charger can be used for the Mach-e, and ii) what kind of adapter or attachment would be required?

Thanks.

Your Tesla home charger will work fine with a T to J1772 adapter. TeslaTap and Lectron are examples.
Later generation Tesla Destination Chargers (commercial) can be set to disallow non-Tesla use.

I am able to charge my MME with my Tesla Wall Connector, using a Lectron J1772 adapter. However, you cannot adjust the number of amps the MME charges at. So when you plug in the MME, it will charge at the maximum amp setting for your wall connector. For example my Tesla wall connector is set to charge at 48 amps.

Because I like to be able to adjust the number of amps I am charging at, we got a Juicebox 40 EVSE to charge the MME. I can adjust the amp level through the Juice Box app.

Thanks for your replies, and glad to hear that! @joebruin77 What is the advantage of adjusting the amps? Just to go easier on the battery if you don't need a fast charge?

There are two reasons. First, since we have two EV's in our household, there may be occasions where we want to charge both cars at the same time. To safely do this, I need to lower the amp setting on both vehicles so that the combined amp rate is 48 amps or less. So neither car should be charging at more than 24 amps. Second, there are periods of high energy use, such as a very hot summer day when I have the AC blasting, that I think it is easier on the entire house's electrical system if I charge at a lower amp rate.

You will be able to use the NEMA 14-50 outlet to plug in the charger that comes with the Mach E as well.

the Tesla-tap works fine with Tesla chargers.... you do have to give the adaptor 'up to' 30 seconds to set itself up for communicating between the Tesla charger and your MME after clicking it onto the Tesla charger handle.
