This has happened a few times. When I turn off the MME the warning alarm goes off. It's like when you leave the lights on and open the door.
There's no reason for it and when I turn the MME on and off again the alarm stops.
Any thoughts?

If you mean a CHIME, which is much different than an alarm, simply rotate the headlight knob from AUTO to OFF, then back to AUTO. The knob has a firmware problem, will be replaced starting in July 2023 (i.e. maybe tomorrow), over time.

What @RickMachE said. My car never had the headlight switch problem in the two years I’ve owned it until about three weeks ago. When it did that, I just stood there confused. Don’t be like me, turn the light switch off if it happens again.

This is what's so weird about this issue. They cannot update the switch, it has to be replaced. Some people go years without an issue. Then, it happens.

When I bought my Lightning, they were going to replace it, but said it showed no code from having done this.

It will be a long process replacing over 100,000 light switches...

Thanks for the info. Yes, it's a chime.
When I park in the garage I always turn the headlamps off just to save a fraction of battery.
I'll try your suggestion if it happens again instead of pressing the start button on and off.

Yeah, there are a lot of these to replace. Our Raptor has the issue as well. We now, as routine, just turn the switch to off when getting out of the truck.

Mine has done that twice. I took delivery last year at the end of July. The first time I couldn’t figure out what was going on. Searching the forum answered my question. The second time I knew exactly what to do.

fascinating.....

my MME started chiming when I opened the door whether the car was on or off, and the lights seems to be staying on for a full 10 minutes after I parked.... I thought maybe it was a side effect of PowerUp 3.5.2 which recently arrived OTA.

I found this thread by searching the word 'chime'

Turning Headlight knob manually to 'off', seems to have fixed it.

It does not sound promising if this is becoming a general problem. Smells like a recall to me, but maybe not since it doesn't really do anything other than annoy you and run the 12v battery down a little.

BUT, maybe we ought to ask @Administrator to 'sticky' this thread and maybe add a poll at the top so @Ford Motor Company can get a count on failures and decide how to handle it ?

yup, I missed that SSM for the headlight issue.... didn't have the issue occur until about a week ago. I was thinking it was a side-effect of PowerUp update. But now I will add it to my Dealer 'jobs' and maybe get this done at the same time as my front half-shaft replacements.

would have been nice if @Ford Motor Company proactively reached out to VINs and handled it as a real recall.

Oh, wait, that's not how they handle recalls. ;(
I really wish Ford would get the hint that customer goodwill and trust evaporates pretty quickly when they fail to handle recalls in a proactive manner. Especially these days when they HAVE emails for owners tied to VINs affected.

Yeah, my guess is that they figured the percentage of cars with the problem is low enough that it’s not necessary to replace it in every vehicle. This switch is used in several models besides the Mach-E and the population is huge. This is just speculation on my part.

Itā€˜s happened on my car only once in 2-1/2 years / 28,000 miles. I have no idea if it will eventually start acting up every time I drive, or if it never will again?

The headlight switch issue is obviously a very minor thing compared to HV bjb or front half shaft issues, what I am objecting to is the general approach to avoid actual recalls and wait for things to break, and force people to bring them to the dealership for verification with DTC codes which may or may not be recorded

Agree 100%. It’s all about the money.
