Pebbles’ routine is to stand, put her front feet, aka hands, on top of the bumper cover and wait for one of her human servants to lift up the rest of her into the car. I think think at 28 months old she’s more than capable of jumping in on her own. She’s also big enough. But she figures as long as someone will save her the effort, why not get a lift?

All that said, I really like my MME and can grudgingly live without kick to open. After all, I bought the car knowing it didn’t have that feature.

It’s really a matter of what you’re used to. The last vehicle we owned with a trunk or even a hatchback storage area was a Nissan Maxima and it’s been gone for almost two decades. Since then we’ve had a Jeep Liberty, a Toyota TJ, a Ford Ranger, and three different full size pickups. Nary a sedan or coupe among them. I just got used to pressing a button or pulling a handle. Someday I’ll remember to kick the car a bit more often.

All this new fangled stuff, it’s not needed I tell you. It’ll rot your brain! Next thing I know you’ll be telling me I don’t need to crank up the phone and call the operator to place a telephone call! Bah. And stay off my grass.

It’s a Cavasback cargo liner.



They make a great product. Not cheap but worth the price in my opinion.



Had a Cavasback cover in my Escape too. It was the first thing I did to my Mach.

I enabled kick to open on my 2022 and I love it. I had it on my prior car and was annoyed it was not on the Mach-E. Luckily, I was able to make it work in Forscan.

I will forever scratch my head as to why Ford disabled this feature on cars that have the hardware. But I’ve never for a second doubted that it’s just the beancounters that have kept the feature from returning on 23s and 24s.

We used Kick to Open on our previous Escape and my wife missed it so we installed this kit that works good. It is a bit complex so not recommended unless you're brave enough to tackle it.

Kick to open was dropped as a feature very early on. Only 2021s have it. Mine works about 30% of the time. I rarely attempt to use it for that reason.

Ford undoubtedly had 37 Quintillion liftgate stickers printed up before the pandemic struck and part shortages became a way of life. I fully expect to see these same stickers in gen 9 Mach-e’s.

Pro tip: set the max height to avoid striking your garage door or the door opener track. There is a years long thread on the after affects of such an occurrence.

Yeah, it’s always been that way. There was an update awhile back that did something with the litigate. It was better after that but far from perfect. It’s just faster for me to press the button. I also kick with my left leg and that’s the one with the artificial knee, so there’s a decent possibility it’s not a Ford thing.

I have kick to open on my Feb-built 2022. I had to activate the software on FORScan, but the hardware was there. Once I figured out where to kick (on the left side of the license plate) KTO works about 80% of the time on first try. KTC on the other hand works maybe 10% of the time. Why the difference? I dunno.

It was meant to inform that you could use the ‘kicking’ motion, which btw, Ford removed that capability sometime in MY 2022. However, they did not see fit to remove the sticker that references the feature. Go figure.??‍

You also have a parking assist button on the center console that essentially does nothing. Removing it appears to cost more than Ford wants to spend.
