What's going on with Mach-e sales?

One dealer told me that I had to get my order by yesterday because Ford was cutting off orders for 2022, but then they said their manager might still be able to order one later, but I should hurry.

It sounded like a bunch of sales talk to me, but someone here confirmed that sales were cutting off.

This morning I went to the Ford website and I was able to put an order in all the way to the end and then I just didn't finish it.

So what's going on with Mach-e orders?

Ford and communication is non existent for not only the consumer but also the dealer. You can still order online the MME as of 2/12/22, dealer were telling folks yesterday was the end of 2022 orders.

In the end who knows, if you want one you should order one now. It's not like it will be delivered anytime soon.

Although I want one, I don't need one. Both my wife's Mini and my Nissan Frontier are in excellent shape with no issues. I can wait until things get better for buying a car, maybe next year.

I realize that when you buy a new car, the dealer really has all the aces in his hand and you just try to do the best that you can. But right now the dealers act like they are doing you a favor by taking your order. It's like when Shake Shack first opened in NYC and all those people were waiting in line outside on the sidewalk for an hour to buy a hamburger.

It's a great car, but I'm going to put it in the ''maybe next year'' category for now.

Ford sent a communique to dealers a while back informing them that orders for the MME in the USA would be cut off on February 11, 2022. The Mach-e is s rather popular automobile atm and Ford was anticipating that the 2022 USA allotment would sell out for the year by that date. It’s possible that they misjudged the actual cutoff date by a bit and you might still be able to place an order request.

The number of MME’s they can produce is limited by the supply chain, both chips and batteries. It’s also possible that Ford could be able to procure a few additional batteries for more cars later in the year but that’s far from likely.

I look at it this way. If you are are thinking you may want a MME in the next year, why not put down a deposit with a dealer who agrees it will be a refundable deposit and will sell the ordered car at MSRP and even accept X-Plan pricing. You are not in a hurry to get the car and Ford is in no hurry to deliver a car to you.

With the current production mess right now with the MME, I have a feeling Ford is being VERY optimistic of a 28+ week delivery time. An order placed today most likely will not be delivered until sometime after September (and likely well after that). By putting refundable deposit down now, you are at least in line so when you do decide you want the car you are not standing at the back of the line waiting for your order.

Demand for this car is the other hazard I see in waiting. If demand keeps increasing for this car, I suspect the line for those waiting will continue to grow. I have a feeling demand for this car will keep exceeding the production capability for some time, which will only make the order wait longer as time goes on.

Agreed but only Ford knows, they share little realtime data with the consumer or dealer. It appears one can still order the MME, when that ends who knows.

Sad part about this is for other makes and models such as the Bronco they are still taking orders for 2022. They already know they have orders that far exceed what they can produce for 2022 as they experienced in 2021.

If they have to cut off orders for 2022s in February because of demand……… what makes you think things will be “better” next year when no one was able to order a car for 8 months??

Basically the waiting list will be a year long = zero chance things will better in a year.

If you’re in no hurry, just put your name on the list with a dealer that will take a refundable deposit. Literally nothing to lose.


This reminds me of the threads on the boat forums that have popped up weekly for the last DECADE. They go “when will boat prices go down?” And people post speculations of “next year.” ?

I'm very happy that Ford is doing so well with the Mach-e, the Lightning and the Maverick. It's great to see them right up there on technology. I knew that this is the worst time ever to buy a car. I'll just ride it out. Keep checking here for what's going on. And I'll jump into the car buying market when things get better.

I knew that buying a car now is an ordeal. And I was somewhat ready for that. But I'm a New Yorker, I'm used to getting a deal on everything. I'll have to wait until that can happen.

I wonder if this is the beginning of the way we have been used to buying new cars. Guitar buyers are feeling the same way. Everyone except the guy who just fell off of the turnip truck always got a deal on a guitar. Some got better deals but nobody paid full price. But now that's not happening very often.

Although Ford supposedly cut off all orders on the 11th they can be verified through the 19th. So, you are in a little bit of a grace period if you really want one get your order in.

Ah, so you’re wanting a better deal and willing to wait for it?

Right now, the “deals” come by ordering a car and getting X plan pricing and waiting for it to come in 6 months later.

Now if you’re hoping to be able to get a “deal” by waiting for inventories to go back to pre-Covid levels so you can negotiate thousands less than MSRP, you may be waiting a very long time.

And because of inflation, you’ll be negotiating against a higher MSRP number.

Your guitar example seems right on though. It’s like this in EVERY market.

Here is my advice based on my experience. If you are not in need right now then just keep your eyes open for people cancelling orders in your area. You may be able to get one that way before the next model year. Find out when orders will start for the next model year. If you want to order then get your order in as soon as possible when it opens. First come first serve is not how it works as there is also an allocation factor. The sooner you order though the better. My personal experience is ordered mid Nov and my vehicle was built Jan 31 and it is on its way. I have read several other posts of people having the same smooth process; although, many others obviously do not. I know I was the only order in Fairbanks Alaska at that time so I may have had a better priority due to dealer allocation. I did notice today that there are 5 more on order for the local dealer with no production dates. Just my experience. Of course things have gone so well my car will fall off the barge as it is crosses the Gulf of Alaska!
