Fallacy #4 of the "tesla is superior" playbook. Yes, Tesla finally put the heralded heat pump in their cars- but Tesla also has a bogus EPA rated range so they still fall short of that rating in any weather.
EPA-rating aside, said heat pump is still more energy efficient than the MME's PTC heater.

Well said @DaMeatMan and everyone else.
Two weeks ago I went on a 450 mile round trip. If I only looked at the range on the instrument cluster I wouldn’t have gone. It said I could go 220 miles on a full charge. I actually went 200 miles and still had over 38% battery left. So total would have been over 300 miles if I wanted to drive to empty. Your range will be less in the cold. But accepting the days board display is like trusting delivery date for an MME.
:)
Yeah, we have seen some GOMs from left field for sure. Some cars are pretty close though.
Mine estimated 269 miles until empty when I left home and estimated 137 miles when I got home. I actually drove 128 miles today so about 4 miles difference between estimated and actual. About 1.5% variance? Seems pretty close.

(Including a photo at 50% S.O.C. because that always gets my attention for some reason....) :)

My 'full' is way off, it is now claiming 239 miles if charged to 100% (according to ford pass)
I have the extended range awd, I would expect it to say at least 260 on the app.

Yeah, that seems way off. I wonder why some cars are so bad at the estimation while others aren't?

- if you plug in at night always precondition the cabin while plugged in since it takes less energy to maintain that heat, and it's initial heating which uses most energy and you want to draw that power from the wall outlet, and not your battery

i am confused by this. preconditioning requires a departure time, right? so if we plug in at night, throughout the night, how would we set a departure time?

or am i missing something?

You either set a departure time on the car's infotainment screen, it is under the charge tab, or you can set them via your FordPass app. Then when you plug it in it will charge to your desired set level at the preferred charge time and then switch off until the time it needs to warm up your car for the set departure time.

Watch the Munro videos where PROFESSIONALS, unlike yourself, have torn down every single component of the Mach-E, and compared it against the other big market players (Tesla, ID.4, GM, etc.)
I saw the videos, they tore down components, but they didn't actually test anything. If they did tests like verifying real world range etc, they wouldn't be using EPA numbers when they were comparing the current evs.

The reality is that range only matters if you need to use most of it, or all of it, between charging sessions. In local driving, if one doesn't need to use most/all of the range any given day, then given that you paid $60,000+ for the vehicle, one could argue to precondition for comfort, and then drive with HVAC set on Auto. Yes, you will use more energy, and pay for that in your electric bill. But you can afford it.

If you commute regularly, you can experiment with what works best for you, ideally in comparable conditions, and also discover what using EHeat really does Tom your consumption on your commute, vs steering wheel heater and heat seater.

I can tell you that there's no way it will be comfortable driving 70 in 20 degree weather with the heat on, and that defrost will be needed often, as just cool or outside air will chill the cabin. Of course setting the temp at 68 will use less energy than 70.

my MME was giving 500kms in summer, now it's giving me 370km in winter at 1-5 C. That's one of the expectations of buying an EV... I am happy with my MME range.

Don't want another argument but this is a Ford forum. Munro is not an expert either. He is a tear down specialist. I think you will find all the claims have little to no back up. About par for TSLA and their backers.

That‘s because Teslas don’t dynamically estimate their remaining range. Instead, they just show the rated range for the given battery percentage. The car won’t really go that far, but it keeps people happy because they get to see a big number. Based on the number of threads like this, it’s clearly working.

actually I'm pretty sure they do. if I drive conservatively for a few days, my estimated range will go up at 90%, and if I drive like a lunatic for a day or two the range will go down. I've been able to get my range before I leave my house to fluctuate +/- 5 miles depending on how I'd driven lately.

That's not what Tesla says:

Why is my displayed estimated range decreasing faster than miles driven?
Displayed range is based on regulating agency certification (EPA) and is not adapted based on driving pattern. Your driving behaviors and environmental conditions can impact your car's efficiency, and therefore its range. To see estimated range based on personalized energy consumption, open the Energy app.

hmm, that's interesting... I hadn't seen that, but I assure you mine changes. It started at 310 miles at full charge, dropped down to 280 about 3 years later, and now depending on the day it could show 275 or 285 when I leave my garage. it seems to correlate based on what type of driving I've done in the last week or so. Lots of highway driving it's lower, lots of local and it shows higher.

is the preferred charge time different from set departure time?
