Unless it's specific to the MME, it certainly isn't normal in any vehicle I've ever owned. Unless, by normal, you mean it's a common defect, which I can believe. In fact, my rear passenger window slipped down to where there was about 1/8th inch open air between the top of the window and the door molding.
Every Mach-E I've seen does it. There is a little bit of flex in the window regulator that causes the window to relax a couple millimeters with the motor torque is discontinued due to the resilient window seal pushing back. The Mach-E uses an unconventional integrated window regulator design that consists of plastic sliding on a track being pushed and pulled by cables, rather than the traditional metal scissor lift mechanism. This is why there is more rebound and why it's a normal characteristic of the design.

If the windows haven't been operated in a long time, then it's possible one could sag slightly over time. Or it simply wasn't closed fully. I haven't had any issues with mine staying closed or creating an air leak.

I tried this today, used the black gorilla tape on the opening and made sure it covered the entire length. Drove 400km(240 miles) today and what a difference, absolutely no wind noise and super quiet in the cabin except the regular tire noise on bad pavement. I will visit my Ford dealer next week and ask them to go for a drive to let them hear the noise with and without tape. Will provide an update on what happens next.

Glad to hear it worked for you! It’s a night and day difference in the driving experience!

How does it look with the tape over it?

Took my Mach-E into ford today because of wind noise. They test drove it and said I have wind noise from mirrors on driver and passage sides. But as of now Ford has not put out a fix. He tried to tell me all cars are like that but just didn't hear it because of the engine. WRONG I have a ford Fusion and there is no wind noise like that. He said if enough people keep bringing cars for the same reason, then for will see the trend and investigate the problem. Until then oh well.

Has anyone tried to tighten the screw on mirror? Maybe get rid of some of the gap which is causing the wind noise. Or when having mirror loose move weather strip around.

Haven’t thought to try that. When I had looked at it, It seemed like bad tolerances of the plastic piece fitting to the door. Mirror seems to be on there tight.

I’m so glad I found this thread. My dealership is one of the ones that says “oh, you’re just noticing it cause you don’t hear engine noise.” Which is the absolute dumbest excuse ever. First of all, I’ve driven EVs and Hybrids for years. Secondly, engine noise isn’t all that loud at cruising speeds. Yes, it gets loud while you’re accelerating, but come on… you could hear this wind noise over the sound of an engine even.

After seeing this thread, I took it upon myself to apply the fix that the lucky poster had their dealership do (must be nice to have a dealership that wants to listen and help).

For those wondering what to look for, there is a 1/8”+ gap between the plastic trim of the side mirrors and the gasket. Most cars I’ve owned have the mirror trim pressed against that gasket, or was tucked under it. However, on the Mach-E, Ford was like “meh, close enough.”and left that gap. That gap is the perfect spot for wind to creep into and make all sorts of noises.

For what it’s worth, I made my best effort in seeing if I could reseat the mirror, but I could not find a good way to do that.It appears as if Ford just didn’t measure the height of the mirror trim well enough.

I applied the black silicone that was linked to earlier in this thread. I tapped off the mirror trim and the gasket, then ran a like of silicone into that gap. I used my finger to run down and remove any excess leaving a smooth line. Then carefully removed the tape and let the silicone cure for a few hours before taking it for a spin.

This trick completely eliminates the wind noise coming from the side mirrors.

Here’s a photo of the gap:

You can see in the last photo, the passenger door had a very large gap, whereas the drivers door was a bit smaller. Both produced the same wind noise.

Here’s a photo of it filled with the silicone after some curing time:

It blends pretty well and is not noticeable at all in person. I feel like this is a hack, but a good hack. I wish Ford had better quality control for a $70k car.

I did painter's tape on both side mirrors and it sounds slightly muted, maybe actually silicone will make it better. Mine just sounds like it is coming from my roof, but then again, I should try it at a lower speed, I usually have BC set to 78, which is what traffic is moving at, but a tough expectation for a car to still be quiet at those speeds!

Ford needs to fix this. If you order a Mach-E take it for test drive first. You might change your mind on buying. I have had a 65 mustang, 69 Fairlane, 83 T-Bird, 97 Taurus, escort, 04 Taurus. Ford man all the way. But never had 1 with this loud of wind noise. This is not normal.

I'm curious if the original gap, or the proposed fix of sealing it, has an impact on water penetration or ability for moisture to drain out.

Good question... if you examine the door, it doesn't look like it connects to anything. I can't imagine how it would. Considering that the passenger-side side-view mirror also has a gap, but one that isn't consistent, I'm guessing it was something to do with manufacturing tolerances. Although both driver-side and passenger-side seem to be consistent across all of our vehicles. Maybe it was an oversight, or represented last-minute changes?

I've gone through some decent rain and humidity, no issues. Still enjoying not having wind noise. As I've written before, every time I think I hear it, it turns out to be some truck that I'm passing that usually has rails up and the noise clearly tracks with their vehicle's position relative to me, and then fades away. This car is so much better without the wind noise.
