Yellow light on mobile charger

For about 2 weeks my L2 mobile charger has been charging at reduced speed and the indicator light is both blue and steady yellow/orange. The manual doesn't really provide much help. Before I enter a black hole of Ford customer service, has anyone had experience with this issue?

Yes, this is a common problem with the Ford Mobile Charger. Ours became flaky after about 9 months of usage.

Just happened to me a week ago. I believe the unit becomes overheated. I unplugged it and restarted the charge and it cleared--so far, it has not reappeared.

Waiting on Ford to release a TSB or something for this so I can just walk in to a dealer with my charger and swap it out for a new one (if the issue has been fixed). Called the dealer and they want me to bring the car in for testing with the charger. No thanks, they're not touching the car.

This has happened to mine a couple of times. I found that if I unplug the charger from the wall, and leave it unplugged for a few hours the problem goes away for a while. Last time I did it, it took about 3 weeks before the problem came back.

Mine now cycles between only blue light and both blue and orange lights. It does feel warm. Charging seems to proceed ok though. It’s hot in the garage lately here in sunny Florida.

I tried to find some documentation in the manual about the charger and the lights but couldn’t find any. Does anybody know where such information may be?

I don’t know but mine started to act that way back in April when my garage temp was only in the low 80’s. I had to set up a fan blowing directly on it to clear the intermittent amber light issue. It was charging slower than normal!

This has happened to me when the outside air is in the 60s. Could someone post a link to the thread that's been most helpful about this issue, or share how you permanently resolved it? It seems to slow my L2 charging by about 1/2, and I'm concerned about fire hazard/battery damage risk.

The permeant resolution is to get the dealer to replace the charger under warranty, or dedicated wall-mounted charger. You have a faulty unit if it's overheating at 60ºF.

It is most likely a design flaw, and most likely not a fire hazard.

My Ford dealer Tom's Ford in New Jersey does not even have a 220V outlet to check the charger. Kept saying it must be the house wiring that is causing the orange light to come on after awhile. They said to contact the factory customer service.

I am seeing the same thing recently. I'm in Maine and its been in the high 20s, low 30s at night. Its been colder and I didn't see the issue then. It happened a few times a couple weeks ago and now seems to be doing it all the time. Unplugging it and plugging back in temporarily fixed the problem before, but does not seem to be helping now.

I am seeing the same issue here in Calgary, Alberta. Temperature outside now is 10 degrees f/-12 degrees c. Inside garage probably 5-10 degrees warmer.

It has been colder this past week and the charger worked fine but today it has the yellow error light. I have tried unplugging the Ford charger from my 220v plug as well as restarting the car and then plugging it in. So far nothing has worked
