Another day of hauling 86 board feet of lumber. (Cut to 4' lengths. Floor in raised position, but supported underneath with 2x4's.) #NotATruck

Thankfully there are a few cargo tie down hooks.

Here is your tough question of the day. Can anyone on this forum think of a possible way to safely transport 8 foot lumber - either inside or outside? I'm asking this because I once had a 2004 Saturn Vue which had a special front passenger seat. The seat back folded fully forward to a flat position even with the rear cargo area. This would easily hold a small load of 2X4's. I miss that car, it was totaled by a recalcitrant oaf unfamiliar with driving in my city.

Harbor Freight moving blankets for the win?

I have them in EVERY vehicle I drive. Including the Frunk and Trunk of the Mach-E 😁
Gonna post for u haul "furniture pads" which are a bit thinner but leave more space for my other stuff under the rear shelf in my vehicle. So I leave them in all the time.

I've been moving a lot medium to large things for Mom and kids this last year. So they are usually protecting the MME from some piece of furniture.

But if I did more projects like OP I'd make sure I had thicker moving blankets to protect the vehicle.

I'll swear that half the scratches in previous vehicles were from putting stuff in the car without having the blankets at the ready (but nearby) and thinking I'll be careful putting it in and taking it out.

Got the walnut and poplar right. Missed the Maple.

Good luck with your project!

My Volvo XC60 had a similar front passenger seat. It was a nice feature.

As for transporting in the Mach E, you can put a limited amount of wood (or similar) extending to between the two front seats, resting on the console arm rest. Not ideal, but it works. I've done that with Ikea cabinets (still in their boxes). I put a towel on the arm rest to protect the surface, and used straps to hold the boxes tight against the passenger seat (luckily my wife is small!). I have cargo rings in the front of the cargo area in back, so I attached the straps to the right side ring (looped around boxes).

Stangy’s done c100,000 miles of its 119,750 fully loaded from behind front seats to max permissible weight with tools & equipment and gets loaded to hilt with garden & other rubbish from time to time.

No.

There are threads somewhere of:

- Someone pushing a piece of wood in and closing their hatch, thereby breaking the windshield from the inside.

- Someone did similar, but broke the center screen.

I use my Lightning.

I do the same thing for 8 ft. trim pieces, but nothing that would damage anything in an accident.

You contributors have reminded me of these oddities..... The very first VW Rabbit I ever saw had the front passenger and rear seats removed. The car was totally full of stacked-up newspapers, ready for distribution in a small town south of Pittsburgh. Years later, the first Prius I ever saw was fully loaded with boxes of rebuilt automotive generators and starters.
