Had you tried to do a software update on your own? Is that the same thing? Mine says all is updated when I manually check for updates.
They do it with their service tool, OTA is not available yet but this issue is starting to stack so maybe they will finally offer it. I assume they want to bake it first.

So i guess you left it there and theyre calling the engineers again? Man, they should just take the car and give you another one at this point and they can just disect this one.
It’s not like I could drive it away!

Yes. Koons was already reaching back out to the engineers.

I assume you tried to open one of the doors first and it didn’t open? The super-capacitor hope isn’t looking too good.
It had no power. The keyless entry pad just had 1 tiny red dot. Fob did nothing.

On a side note, should be easy for Ford to pop the frunk from the fordpass app eventually.

What super capacitor? Serious or joke?

So my car was dead this morning. Day 5 of owning it. Haven't driven it since day 3.

Had to use a jump box to get the frunk open. PITA to unsnap the plastic away to get to the 12v battery jump points, but it lit up as soon as I got power to it. Got in and started it up and let it run for 1/2 hour.

Had the ? and "Service soon" message. I shut it off, turned back on, moved it. After the 3rd power cycle I think, the ? and message went away. Went up to the store, no issues.

Drove the car in the evening, no issues.

Not sure if it's a coincidence or not, but about 30 hours earlier I got a charge fault error. It had reached my 90% limit a few hours earlier, so when I saw this message at 3am (The next morning, day 4) I didn't think anything of it.

My friends 2020 Early build Explorer did the same thing. Something drained the battery FAST to where it tried to put itself into a deep sleep mode. He never had the issue again and at the next oil change they put a software on it.

So if I see a charge fault, I'm going to go out and start it and see if that keeps the battery from draining.

I have VIN 01952
When was your build date? Curious if this is another December build date with 12v issues

Serious. Ford said early on that the doors would have super-capacitors so that they could still be opened if the 12v battery was dead. Did you try pressing the open button on the door?

It's serious feature of the door latch design. It stores a charge so that the door can be opened. That said, I think it is mainly designed to exit the vehicle in case of emergency and battery is dead / disconnected. It probably isn't good for getting into the vehicle (especially if it's not unlocked).

I can't load my VIN in the tracker app or any ford site. I gave up my March delivery order for this dealer stock unit.

Sticker says 11/18/20. That's the only date I have. Dealer says this was for stock and not a demo, either way they're not getting it back.

That would take power too though, which is missing with a dead 12V battery. Power for the lock mechanism, and power to run the computer and communications that would receive the signal.

Yeah, agree. I meant for a future feature.

If possible some of these systems should have their own 9v battery or something stand alone. We replace them once a year. And they should be enough power to open door etc... my AA batteries open electronic locks and close them ... not sure but a thought . It’s just concerning that we have weak link with 12v battery. Even if all the components are eventually fixed we need a diagnostic system that monitors the 12v battery Health snd tells us to replace it before it fails

I think you're onto something. Guess what the 2021 F-150 and Mach-E share in common?

Sync 4.

I think it's possible sync could be responsible for the battery drain -- possibly by not shutting down properly or sleeping when it should, thereby using too much 12v power when the cars are off.

Just a guess here. But the resolution according to Ford for the problem on the F-150 is a software update.
