I picked up mine on Sunday the 13th. My Ford pass allows me to unlock the car but has no way to set up the “phone as a key” feature. We’re you able to set up your phone as a key?
Setting up Phone-as-a-Key is a multi-step process.

1. Download the FordPass app (sounds like you've done that)

2. "Activate' the car via the FordPass app. For best results ... be inside the car and 'start' the car before initiating the activation. It also helps if the car has good cell coverage (AT&T) and Ford suggests you be outside (not in a garage, parking deck, etc.). That really just activates the cellular modem in the car to be connected to the FordPass app on your phone... but it's all happening across the Internet via cellular ... the car doesn't really have a direct connection to your phone.

3. I linked the phone to the car via BlueTooth. Now your car has a link to your phone.

4. I also linked the car to my home WiFi so that it doesn't have to rely on AT&T coverage (which is poor at my home ... but if you have good AT&T coverage then this step probably isn't important).

5. On the FordPass app you should see an option to set up Phone as a Key (on the 'home' screen). Make sure you are in the car and have the factory key-fob with you (you can't set up a phone-as-a-key without that fob).

If you set up more than one Phone-as-a-Key, the additional phones can create and sign in to their own FordPass accounts (you don't need to use the same email address... each person can have their own). Those additional users should add the car and attempt to 'activate'. It will fail (not to worry ... that's meant to happen) but it will fail because the car is already activate to YOUR Ford Pass account. They'll get a prompt asking if they want to request authorization from you. Your phone (Ford Pass) will get the authorization request and if you approve them then their Ford Pass app can view & control the car. THEN you can set up their phone as Phone-as-a-Key (but you must still have the factory FOB with you to do this. You can't use your Phone-as-a-Key to create a new Phone-as-a-Key.

Thanks. I was able to set it up by following your instructions. You were more helpful that the Ford guide?

So, I have a Chamberlain MyQ Garage Door Opener (pro tip - avoid this piece of garbage like the plague) and it works fine off the watch without the phone being present. I use it to get back into the house after I come home from a run (and I open the garage well before I'm in either wifi or bluetooth range). I bring this up to cite a perfect example of a totally incompetent company that, nonetheless was able to put together a half-baked piece of garbage that could run exclusively on the watch and barely perform what it was designed to do.
I also have a Chamberlain MyQ opener. The Apple Watch app functions flawlessly as does the garage door opener itself. Perhaps we have different model openers but mine is quiet and reliable.

Updated, and phone as a key still does not work. Android auto finally works, phone doesn't do the endless restart when hooking up usb cable. Yet it will only work when the USB cable is connected. Will not work wireless. Went through the setup once connected. Restarted phone and car. Will not work unless plugged in.

Two huge reasons I bought this car, wireless Android auto and phone as a key. Both not working. Starting to get annoying. Making a third trip to dealer in a week for some "expert" to help with phone as a key.

Wireless is broken in the current version of Android Auto. The newer version of the app works. They will officially update the app soon. You can manually install the update in the meantime. That does work as I've been using wireless AA since the day I got my car.

Also, you'll get more help on here than your dealer on that. They don't have a clue about any of this stuff.

I think you misunderstood. My garage door opener works fine. The MyQ app on the phone works fine to open and close the garage door. The MyQ watch app works fine to open and close the garage door (even when the phone is not available - I have an Apple Watch with Cellular). The issue is HomeKit. Their implementation of HomeKit is utter junk. I get random alerts from HomeKit throughout the day that the garage door has opened or closed when there has been no motion (I'm at home all day - I'd know if the garage door opened or closed). Sometimes, I'll get a series of about 10-15 of them come through rapid-fire, one after the other. The garage door doesn't respond to HomeKit commands, either via Siri or through the HomeKit app. The response to HomeKit is "No Response". Chamberlain customer service has been useless.

Out of curiosity, do you have either a HomePod, Apple TV, or iPad as a home hub?

HomeKit gets weird when there isn't a home hub. When there is one, everything vastly improves as there's a centralized device always on the network.

I personally have an Apple TV HD (1080p) as my home hub. When I have the Apple TV unplugged, there's a lot of misfire. Not that I'm frequently unplugging the device!

Not sure I'm a fan of the most recent update, at least on iOS. Can no longer see the current status of the car (plugged in not charging, etc). PaaK had been mostly working the past week, though I hadn't driven the car, it worked whenever I went into the garage with my phone to mess with the car. Decided to finally drive it today since the weather is going to be nice and could not get PaaK to work at all (after this update was applied last night).

Now that I'm at work FordPass is blank - just constantly "loading" with a grey SUV silhouette flashing in and out.

I have an Apple TV 4K, an Apple TV, a HomePod, and 2 flavors of iPad Airs.
I have no issues with any of my other HomeKit stuff (Caseta lighting, the Apple TV’s of course, and the LG TV). Only this stupid Chamberlain junk.

Don't know about the other issues ... but the status is still there, just a little harder to find.

Tap the 'Vehicle' icon (along the bottom), then 'Manage EV' (the three "tabs" in that screen are "Your Vehicle", "Manage EV", and "Service & Support" and you want "Manage EV".

In "Manage EV" you'll see a section called "Manage Charging"

That screen will tell you if the car is plugged in or unplugged, actively charging, etc.

I do notice the quirk that it will report the car is "Unplugged" (it is actually plugged in) but I'm not too worried because functionally the car does what it is supposed to do ... which is to monitor the 12v battery state and periodically touch-up the charge level. When it is actively touching-up the charge on the 12v it does correctly report that it is plugged in and charging ... about 30 minutes after it finishes it will revert to reporting that it is "Unplugged".

My wild guess is some component responsible for reporting this status is allowed to go to sleep. So to me this is a minor bug that the app reports as being "Unplugged". The important thing is that the car batteries are being maintained.

I just got a new iOS update this morning - 3.17.0. Some mention in the release notes about improved access to vehicle status. Of course, I don't have a car yet so I can't say for sure it addresses your issues.

You’re not running iOS 14? I’m at 14.4.

Yes, sir. I'm at 14.4.
3.17.0 is the new version of the FordPass app that was pushed to me this morning.
Sorry. Misunderstood.

Yup, Chamberlain piece of junk! With a hub setup, then it is the Chamberlain implementation.
