I agree. BT was probably a bad choice, but is not just BT. You have to have to have the Ford Pass app open and enable location. I noticed that most times when PAAK failed to me I was also receiving the Annoying prompt from Apple about the FordPass using my location and ask for confirmation if I wanted to continue allowing. Maybe that was somehow interfering with the authentication process. I just hoped they used NFC.
In retrospect, NFC might have been a better PAAK choice. But then you'd be guaranteed to have to take the phone out to trigger the door unlock instead of maybe or probably taking the phone out.

For me it is no key detected ...... after it just let me in. Good hardwired tunes (phone contacts) and are working perfectly. I am just smiling that I have upped to usb C and completely skipped usb A auto. Have hope the wi-fi network adapter is reliable.

I concur that FordPass app has to be open. Mine has been working fine for the past couple weeks. Yesterday, i forgot to open the app after i restarted my phone. When I got to my car, it did not register. Once i started it app, the push button on the door lit up and i was able to get it. I also noticed PAAK worked better with clear line of sight. If you are parked between cars, you have to be at the car to work. With better line of sight i have seen it work within 10 to 15 feet.... not exactly sure since i was walking towards the car.

and you'd have to deal with phones that don't have NFC. there are phones shipping today - new phones - that don't have NFC. that might be silly, but here we are. we know at least two forum members own such phones. ;)

I suspect some people with NFC would argue that "well I don't care about them, because mine would work better"... but Ford has to be careful about that kind of thinking.

however, the other piece is as mentioned you're back to having to take the phone out (and in fact hold it to very specific places), like you would a key, like you're driving a 1975 Mustang II or something. If PaaK is truly to be a key fob replacement, it's got to work in your pocket, including in colder climates where you've got potentially your phone buried in a pocket and you have heavy gloves on. NFC simply doesn't do that because of the NF part.

NFC is in some ways fundamentally broken for this use case - just broken in different ways than BT. If you live in Silicon Valley, you wouldn't have to deal with those ways. But, ask a certain software company car maker about how designing for moderate cold as the worst level of cold is working out.

I haven’t received the update yet. It’s interesting that nobody can see a single change yet.
more like kinda sad...

What was the outside date for everyone getting this? Wasn't it like end of April or something?

On a silly note, with NFC, we could use something like the NFC Tesla ring, but maybe with something more Mustangee... :D

I would not hold my breath on that one. The garage door opener is not integrated with "data" into the vehicle - as far as I know the only wires that run to Homelink are a 12V and a ground. It's not an update-able module.
I've never seen a Homelink module that didn't have firmware that was updateable.

Maybe it's wireless.

Developers write very detailed release notes. The marketing types responsible for customer engagement are usually to blame for what gets published.
Maybe they should fire the marketing department. ?

So the past few days I decided to leave my key fob in an RFID bag. This was only to test whether PAAK would begin to work. I am not sure if the OTA fixed this bug but my car seem to present more consistently (4 times) as I approach. It presents when I get within 5 to 10 feet with phone in my pocket. It was sporadic or delayed by a few seconds before. I will see if this remains the case later or tomorrow. But for now, my key fob is locked away. Of course, the key code is my alternate means of entry.

Update: If useful

Sync 4 Version: 20312_PRODUCT
Revision: 243
I have not received the OTA yet but when it was in the shop for my charging schedule not being honored they updated all firmware. Approach now presents itself better. Sporadic and random was what mine was also before. I think you can add that to one of the bug fixes. Lights up on approach better. Same sync version as 2 months ago but not the same version inside?

No OTA update yet for me - my vehicle says all good. But my ford account on the web used to have a tile for OTA updates but that no longer shows - and I think its related to my VIN being read as Ford Edge. Chat with support did not go anywhere as to why I cant OTA update status on my account page.

So one thing I've noticed since the OTA is that PAAK seems way more reliable now. My door is unlocking every time on the first push of the button. The car has been starting on the first try without giving me no key detected.

It also has been helping to keep my phone in my right pocket, instead of my left. I used to keep only my fob in my right pocket, and phone in left. Now that I don't need a fob, I can keep the phone in the right pocket. If I have the phone in the left pocket, it will occasionally still say no key detected and its just body interference I believe.
