Do you use the fob or your phone for your everyday driving

I always get the password prompt with PAAK. Sometimes if I wait, or ignore that, it will start and go. But pressing the little door button on the outside to lock the car doesn't work with my PAAK, and ironically I have to use the phone app lock button in ford pass.

I've only had my car for a couple days, but I too have had some minor issues with PaaK. When I can't start the car I wait about 15-30 seconds then it works. I've been away for almost a week so I haven't been able to see if the recent Ford Pass app updates have improved things.

I want the passcode too. But I'm gonna try and activate it through my old phone instead (then turn it off), and keep PAAK turned off on the phone I really carry. I'm just about to test that now and see if it works.

Did this work? Since I carry other keys with me, the fob forces me to remember the other keys. PAAK will have me forget the other keys since the car will start without them:-( So I'd like to have the back up passcode without PAAK. I don't have 2 phones so if I set up PAAK then passcode, can I disable PAAK and still have the passcode?

I tried it once and couldn't get PAAK activated on the backup phone. Not sure if it was because I was logged in to FordPass with my same id/pw on both phones? I never got around to trying a different id/pw just in case. So still unsure whether this will work.

I do want to update my response. I'm three weeks in now and have returned to exclusively using the key FOB. Experienced way too many issues after a week with the PAAK. Many were so frustrating. And I try the PAAK every day still, it's just glitchy.

Idk if my patience for taking it slow went away. But the responsiveness stinks.

Fob only, PaaK has not appeared on the app since delivery, never setup. If I do see PaaK, and set it up, will having fob and phone present cause issues? After a month of PaaK not even showing in the app, I am reluctant to trust the feature at all.

Tried to set up my galaxy s20 fe as paak several times only to get a msg "phone not compatible". So I've been using the fob exclusively. The fob has not been inconvenient as all my pants have pockets. However my phone has my music and though it doesn't work as a key I can start, lock and unlock the car via ford app. New problem though, I keep locking my phone in the car.

Yes. Kinda.
I have PaaK on two phones. The phone I was using when I got my car (Samsung Galaxy S7) and now my current phone S10e. Either phone works.......but my old phone has to be connected to the internet via WiFi in order for FordPass to connect. It appears that you must have FordPass running on your (internet connected) phone in order for PaaK to have a chance of working. So, if you don't have cell or WiFi service on your phone....Paak isn't going to open or start your car. (according to my experience.......let me know if you discover otherwise)

I have two start codes now. The one from my S7 and the one from my S10. Either start code works still but I think that is because both profiles exist in FordPass. From what I remember, if you log into FordPass, there is a section called Phone as a Key and you can edit your profiles. I never deleted them from there so they are both still active.

So, back to your question......."can I disable PaaK and still have the passcode?". You can, provided the method you use to 'disable' PaaK is to shut down FordPass. In that scenario then you are good and that is what I do. I rarely open up FordPass. I did it yesterday because I was on a road trip and thought it might be handy to have running just in case I needed to remote start or stop for a DCFC. FordPass drains my battery so fast that I don't normally have it running. On a road trip it's okay because I can just leave my phone on the charger while driving so that works out. Other days, I use and rely on my phone too much to let FordPass cripple the battery.

I too tried PaaK and gave it an honest college try. I probably fall into the category of heavy user. 4300 miles in 6 weeks of driving. I get in and out of my car dozens of times per day and dealing with PaaK is just not convenient for me at all. The fob works and still is much better than using a real key. In the whole scope of things.....not having a functional app or PaaK still hasn't stopped me from using my car. A small inconvenience but still better than pumping gas.

I don't think that would be a problem. PaaK works on both my phones and they use the same login to FordPass. ? I wonder......

Doesn't the car have the ability to be a WiFi hotspot? If so, then I could probably let my old S7 connect to the internet using the car's WiFi signal and then PaaK would work on that phone even though it doesn't have a cellular connection any more. Then again....what is the benefit of that? It would just be another phone that I would have to carry around and keep charged up etc etc.

The fob is still easier. ?

I had problems with PAAK when I took delivery, could not complete configuration as it did not like my (andriod) phone, could not get/set a backup startcode. I wanted a second Fob to have SOME spare; Dealer said they 'couldn't get one, they are on backorder'. I found them online for $99, bought one, Dealer then said they couldn't program it because I didn't get it from them..... I went ballistic.....

eventually figured out how to get thru PAKK configuration (with a borrowed phone), so I could set a BackupStartCode..... added my phone, which seems to drop BT connection, but usually re-connects if I turn BT off and back on.

so....... current mode of operation is:
- I put both my original, and my un-programmed Fob in the drawer at home
- I use PAAK when MME sees my phone
- I use door code + console BackupStartCode when PAAK doesn't see my phone

.... except when I park facing south, forget my sun shade over console, and console gets hot and stays black so I can't enter StartCode ... ;(

You dealer can absolutely program that fob provided it is the correct part number. They are just refusing to do so. Try another dealer and can even use your FordPass points to pay for it (if you have any available still).

My dealer programmed both of my spare fobs. I have 3 working fobs now. One for me, one for my wife and one for a spare.

I recently gave up on PaaK. Set it up on my Pixel 5 a couple times and tried very hard to like it. But too many times while walking up to the car, I had to fish my phone out of pocket and fiddle with it -- some times it would work, or I simply needed to unlock the screen.. other times I'd have to restart the ford pass app. By that point, I normally would have given up and just entered my door code. Once I was in the vehicle, it would usually find the phone by then and I could just start it. Also it seemed like my battery was draining faster with the Ford Pass app running?

In contrast, the fob always works.

Since I wanted to keep the door/start codes, I didn't delete my PaaK registration, I just wiped the app data from my phone, and forgot the bluetooth address, then relogged into Ford Pass. Now I launch the app when I need it, and use the fob like a normal car.

I use the FOB. My phone has not proven to be reliable. About 2 weeks ago, I drove my kids to the park and on the way home, the car wouldn't start. Turns out I had forgotten my FOB and drove (successfully) with just my phone. It wasn't a big deal to use my start code, but the FOB is guaranteed to work.
