I dont think the MME will heat or cool the battery while parked unplugged so the expended range battery won't help you at all.
I guess I'm assuming that at this point:
This is because the vehicle will run the A/C compressor and circulate battery coolant through the chiller to keep the pack from overheating.
it was using the battery to protect itself. I think Tesla's do this. My understanding is that cold temporarily reduces the battery capacity. Heat can actually damage the battery.

Is this going to be your first EV? You are going to love the A/C here in Phoenix. Works excellent with minimal range penalty. Your range will be MUCH more reduced in the winter when using cabin heat compared to summer with A/C on high. That was another thing that surprised me about these things. Pleasant surprise though...
And yes it is my first EV. I just now realized your in Phoenix too! Howdy neighbor.

Howdy! Let me know if you have any questions or would like to see how Ford does things with their EV program. The FFE was a joint venture with Magna International from Canada. I have several technical papers, diagrams and training bulletins on the FFE to share. I don't know if Magna was involved in the MME but I would expect so....they are a tier 1 supplier for Ford and other OEMs so it stands to reason they would have some involvement.

So, the FFE only conditions the battery while the vehicle is in ready mode or when plugged in. When unplugged it just sits there. You can remote start but that times out after 10-15 minutes or so.

You are correct.....cool weather temporarily reduces battery charge without permanent effects.
Excessive heat can damage the battery and reduce the charge capacity.

I posted some videos on YouTube that explains all the under-hood components and the thermal management systems on the FFE. It is quite complicated......but comprehensive. It works quite well as best as I can tell. MAX A/C cools the car down very quick here in AZ........MUCH quicker than an ICE vehicle for sure.

Feel free to PM me if this forum allows that feature and we can compare notes.

So if the MME follows the same logic, then for someone parking in the sun for extended periods of time in a really hot summer, it'd be best to find somewhere to plug in?

Unfortunately, our work parking is open air and summers get REALLY hot here. So the car will be parked in the sun for 10 hours every day. But it might be possible to install an outlet somewhere.

How about getting them to install solar panel parking covers with car charging stalls?
Ford Mustang Mach-E SR Battery or ER Battery 1588074436733

If you start convincing them now you might have it by summer 2021.

Not a bad idea but not sure if feasible, since ours is quite small and really packed.

Obviously some kind of shade would be a better solution in general (it would protect the whole car, not just the battery) but if not possible, an outlet might be relatively easy. That's why I wanted to know if that would mean the battery would be conditioned during hot days.

So that is the real concern.....parking these things in an exposed parking lot with extreme ambient temps. Honest answer is that I am not sure what effect that has on the battery. It's a concern of mine so that is why I always leave my car plugged in at work and at home even when parked in the garage because it gets super hot in the garage too.

Some scan tools can read battery temp and I have been curious what the actual battery temp is when parked in the sun. If ambient is say 115.....what temp is the battery? It might be fairly well insulated and it could stay cool for quite some time. If you drive the car during lunch then it will circulate chilled coolant through the battery for your lunch hour and then might be okay until you get off work. I have also thought about remote starting the car in the mid afternoon to see if that could cool the battery but then I just ended up installing a charger at work and problem solved.

I would suggest that you try and find a place to park with shade in the afternoon. My niece parks in the parking garage at her work which is in the shade and my brother has covered parking at his work so that seems to be okay for those two. As far as we know, there hasn't been any appreciable loss of capacity with their vehicles but it has only been one summer so far. We are starting the second summer now. Time will tell I suppose.

My wife owns a C-Max Energi. When temps are over 105 or so......it has to be parked in the garage or shade or the battery will get so hot while parked that it won't function. Meaning....the car will not operate in EV mode even with sufficient state of charge. It will switch over to hybrid mode and run the ICE because the battery is too hot. If we drive around a bit, then the A/C cools down the cabin which has the net effect of also cooling the battery (since it is inside the cabin) but it takes quite a while. The Energi C-Max and Fusion vehicles have an air cooled battery.......not liquid cooled like almost all BEVs do. (Nissan Leaf aside of course....)
EDIT: Battery degradation on the C-Max is noticeable. We have less than 70% capacity remaining on a full charge. Proof that thermal management is critical to extending the life of these cells.

I currently have white selected as the color for my MME because of this concern but I also really like the infinite blue color too. I wouldn't get a black or dark charcoal color BEV here in Arizona. Maybe it doesn't make a difference but white seems like it would stay cooler to me.

I think there's an error with the site (maybe in the process of updating it??). I selected GT and it defaulted back to the Select trim. I selected a Premium and it defaulted back to Select.

The Ford website in Germany ?? is incredible. There're so many mistakes in it. I changed my configuration twice times in the past. Only the German online service is able to see my changed parameters (colour and the big technology package no. 2). I can't see it - unbelievable.
And there's another bug: Have you ever configured a MME you aren't able to change it. Hey, we are living in 2020,don't we? In Germany we do so, but obviously in India not. There was the side produced. And Ford knews about this problem.

Any questions?

Yes. It's not just you. It's glitching over here. I'll also be "glass half full" optimist and hope that this is due to an update for the configurator.

Probably right. They are back on the site now.

Yes, back to normal, but unfortunately no update -- not even the two additional colors in the GT configurator.
Bummer they are so slow at this. They should have had it ready as soon as the new colors were announced. I'm still wondering what Dark Matter Gray looks like.

BTW, saw a Grabber Blue ICE Mustang, maybe about 2012, on the freeway tonight. I like it! If only I could convince my wife to add the racing stripes ?

Keep up the good fight. It's the same struggle in our house. It's not that my wife won't let me get them... but she certainly feels they're "visually just too much."

Give her a choice, stripes or flames on the sides.
