I like the Mach Es looks, interior and paint, but it has its own fit and finish problems I'm surprised and disappointed by.

I like CarPlay in my honda and giving it up would be a bummer in a Y.

Early code seems to have some fairly serious bugs

It also seems that its OTA update "depth" isnt as comprehensive and Im finding TSB's that require trips back to the dealer at a higher rate than Telsas require a shop or mobil visit.

Ford having a dealer network isnt a plus for me as from a service perspective they all dont actually know the car, and dealing with them has historically been not a pleasant experience (SHO, lightning, F150 ecoboost) I dealt with dealer markup in some form or another on every vehicle. Although my kids Focus did not, I consider that a lower end purchase than my own but that brings up the experience with Focus and its power shift trans was absolutely terrible.

The big thing for me is really the door to door time on long trips. According to a better route planner both rides have me to stop three times on my standard trip, Normally Ill stop twice in an ICE vehicle about 15 minutes a stop- long enough to fill up, bio break, and eat a snack.

If a better route planner is to be believed - The model Y has it full on beat here adding 32 minutes to the teslas charging time. The mach E's long trip charging curve is decidedly inferior.

Basically the Model Y adds about a half an hour on top of my ice trip, and the Mach E about an hour.

Left is Mach E, right is Model Y same source and destination - both arrive at the destination with a 75% charge

Mach E stops - 30 min, 27 min, 40 min
Model Y stops- 23 min, 15 min, 27 min

The EA network is also more expense by about the price of a cheap lunch.

Im surprised after all this time th Ford finds itself behind in this critical arena.

Is $7500 incentive enough for the time lost on long trips like this that people on average go maybe once or twice a year?

A better route planner is really just an estimate. You also need to take into effect the mache awd ext gets close to its range than the model y does. SO take Edmonds range test or the many others that are on youtube and if the mache outdoes the model y your trip the stop times are going to be closer than you think. Seen this first hand.

Can the model y charge faster than the mache right now? yes, it can. Will it always? don't know more updates the mache will be coming.

One other point is also there is more traffic at the tesla charging stations in Cali than EA now. You could stop and have to wait for mintues to charge while the mache is charge and done.

to me, if it was 30 minutes longer to charge on that road trip I would still choose the car I like better for 30 minutes of time. It's not a major deal.
The edmonds range test is a mix of city and highway. Not an all highway test.

With all other manufactures leaning on EA traffic will get much worse.

If true 30 minutes each way added up over multiple trips per month starts to become a big deal - once or twice I agree.

A half hour per leg adds up.

I joined because I wanted to read and learn about the cars ups and downs from owners and have honest open discussion about it.

Perhaps for someone who does it once or twice a year it is.

Ive done it several times a month for 10 years now.

Give up Car Play? MME has Car Play. Also AM radio, which Tesla does not.
The OP updated the post to include if they went with the Y they lose car play.

It sounds like you’ve done your evaluation based on the criteria you believe are important to you and have settled on the vehicle that you believe will best suit your needs. I sincerely with you many miles of happy, trouble free driving with the Tesla. They have a lot of happy, very loyal customers.
Ive waited this long, and will wait at least until tesla ships the 4680 based packs, but Id really like to see some more variety in the marketplace.

You forgot to factor in the cost of self driving tech. $10k for Tesla and the CEO actively admitted he can’t deliver what people already paid for vs the $1300 option from Ford which will do pretty close to the same thing. Also need to factor in the cost of repairing a roof that flies off on the highway or the wooden dowel rods used to support critical components. Wood prices at Home Depot have skyrocketed

I cant really discuss anything without joining can I?

Ive bought more Fords than most guys here.

How would you feel if you encouraged your kid to buy a focus and learned ford knew it was bad design? Would Ford be the most trustworthy auto company (which was the post I posted in)

I wouldn't order that option anyway.

Telsa has has its share of problems and Im no Elon fanboy.

That said what I've learned from this site is that this Ford has basic problems no 100 year old car company should.

I personally wouldn’t factor in that time difference. What are the odds that all the chargers are full and I have to wait for one to open up? Will EA build out its network and catch up or pass Tesla? A lot of variables. An extra thirty minutes? Big deal, I’ll watch some TV while I wait.

Sounds like you should buy the Model Y.
