The frequency of ID4 ads on the NHL and NBA telecasts is stunning. I admittedly don't watch a ton of TV, but I can only recall seeing a Mach-E ad once or twice. Even if Ford's current thinking is that they are selling them as fast as they can build them (faster?) It seems like a mistake to let VW get that much more notoriety. Thoughts?

I saw sales figures for that electric VW somewhere. They sold like 400 in Q1 2021. Commercials seem like a play to try to move that up a notch. Makes me wonder if they even have any if you wanted to buy one...

Tesla has zero dollars spent for advertising. Tesla sells a lot of EVs. No need if product is good and selling.
Yeah but this is about the transition to widespread adoption. Tesla sells a lot of EVs to a small population of early adopters. They do not sell a lot of cars compared to the legacy automakers.

I would think that Ford will increase advertising later in the year. For now production is constrained and they can’t keep up with demand. I am guessing but I think Ford would coincide an increase in advertising presence with a ramp-up in production.

I've seen several Mach E ads. The best part was the Mach E ad followed by an id.4 ad right after Elon's SNL monologue.

Back in February time frame they were all over the place. (I think there was even a Mach-E commercial around the Superbowl.)

I've since seen quite a few of the Mach-E vs commercials on various programs. Note below is a playlist of all the Mach-E vs spots.

A large number of Tesla YouTube vids have Ford ads attached. Smart? Also, yes, Tesla sells a lot of cars, not just to EV Niche geeks. When the id4 was released VW said their only real competitor, and the one they needed to catch, was Tesla.

Did you miss Norway in the heading?
Nope, but I don't recall where you said US only? Norway is a country too. The situation is the same in Switzerland and a few other EU.

Obviously much higher than the US but to say they are only selling to early adopters when they are pushing out around 200K cars a quarter is pretty silly.

1. if the product sells itself well, no need to push further
2. Supply is obviously TERRIBLE right now. last thing you want is to tell someone no.
3. Supply comes back up you'll see a push to advertise more.

Ford is only planning on making 50k Mach E's per year. It's not supposed to compete with VW or Tesla is number of units sold.
The F150 Lightning, on the other hand, is supposed to be sold in higher numbers, and we'll probably see tons of commericals for them.

They allocated 50,000 in the FIRST year because they had no idea how popular it would be and only wanted to commit to that many batteries. I'm pretty sure they are planning a lot higher production now, pending battery availability

Where are you getting that information? From what I recall they aren’t going to make that many F150 lightenings next year.
