A dealer should be able to program a new key with no other keys present. As long as you can prove ownership.
I suspect that is correct, but if they did security right and program a new key with no other keys present then it should invalidate all other keys, making the original FOB useless (or at least having to be reconfigured with the new fob before it would work again).

?I have a car on order. This is concerning. When Tesla sends updates, we have the option to install or not. They aren't installed automatically. But as with Tesla, there will be some initial learning as Ford moves forward with electrification and OTA updates
Lots of messages, and didn't see anyone answer this... (sorry if I skimmed over a reply, sometimes it seems like I notice an answer after I already said essentially the same... lol)

Anyways, there is an option for that. You can tell the vehicle not to ever automatically update.

Will someone tell me when PaaK works? I mean, really works, like a fob. Solid. No screwing around.

Thanks.

I got a message late yesterday saying “All Phone As A Key access and Backup Start Passcodes were removed from [ (2021 Mustang Mach-E)] due to Master Vehicle Reset. A vehicle key fob is required for operation.”

I happen to be road tripping and did not bring the FOB with me since I figured with the phone and with the backup passcode that’s two methods to start the car.

Last night after getting the message my PaaK did stop working but I was still able to start via passcode. I have two days left in my road trip so parked it at the nearest Ford dealership overnight and heading there soon to see what we can do.
Anyone had this problem? Is there any way to get back on the road without a fob?

Hello all. I am a long time reader of this forum, but this is my first post. Ordered my MME in November 2020 and just received it this past week (July 2021). So I have been reading this forum for many months now so I could be aware of what to look for, expect, etc. Everyone has been wonderful and thank you all for your contributions.

I really had no intention of joining or posting, but this thread caught my attention this morning because I received this exact same message last night. It has been a trouble free week of driving my new MME and getting it set up. But when I received this message I was very surprised....confused....concerned. I have avoided setting up PAAK because of all the nightmare experiences that have been shared. So how could my PAAK have been removed if it has never even be set up??? That was the flashing red light that told me this is something wrong on the software side most likely.

Then I saw Ford chime into this post and ask for a VIN so they can look into it, I am hopeful they will have a resolution quickly.

So, hypothetically, some wanker decides to randomly press buttons on the door code, it, must, lock after a certain number of failures, right? Oopsies!

I tweeted to Kevin Levine about this last Friday (7/9/2021) because this happened to me, and the Ford dealerships in my area either couldn't work on it, or wanted to schedule for me to come in after the first of September. I contacted the gurus and they said I couldn't re-add my PaaK because of FSA 21B36.

To his credit, he replied to me almost instantly. Took my VIN and number, said he'd get someone on it.

That said, no one has gotten back to me yet.

Agree completely. The Tesla PAAK also doesn't work seamlessly at times. I hate that the 3 and Y only have a card key. My husband forgets his all the time and can't use the valet then. My S came with a fob and I always keep it in my purse.
Being surrounded by Teslas where I work, their PAAK system seems a lot more robust. Everyone I've talked to about it hasn't had anything bad to say. I'm sure there are occasional issues, but it's few and far between from what I've seen. And the key card is literally the size of a credit card which people keep in their wallets. Seems harder to forget or lose than a fob. And from what I understand, they get 2 at purchase.

You can say what you want about Tesla, there are some things they have that are simply better.

Rather than look over the fence and point fingers, Ford needs to get their act together when it comes to the basic stuff. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed so far.

PAAK should work seamlessly if they expect it to be used instead of a fob/card, and they must or why only give out one fob?

I prefer the fob to the card because the car senses it and I never have to remove anything from my purse and then wallet and then lay it along the pillar and then lay it on the console and then start the car and then the card flies off the console when I start driving. To me a fob is simpler. Perhaps to a man with a wallet that the car can "read" the card through, that's not the case.

Anyway, I hope in the 24+ weeks it takes my MME to get here they will have that fixed and if not, I am super happy with a fob.

Tesla did many things well (We own 3!), and I love my Model S, but I now feel like I'm driving a 6-year-old computer and am excited Ford has moved into the EV market. I personally HATE the door handles on the 3 and Y. Almost impossible to use from certain angles and one-handed. I also HATE the card key. I can't open the frunk or boot with the card like I can with a fob. So again, rummaging around in the purse hoping I have my phone on me or to find the card to lay across the pillar and then across the console before I can push the button on the screen to open the frunk. So happy Tesla has pushed the competition to this point! Hope Ford gets it right

To be a little fair, Tesla has had over 10 years to work out the bugs. I think PAAK is new to Ford with the Mach. This is why some people never buy a first year model... How was PAAK on Tesla during it's first half a year?

Funny you should ask. I can't use PAAK on my 6 year old Model S. Thank goodness for the fob!

Don't quote me on this, but I think it only started with the Model 3 in 2018? The S and X have key fobs for entry.

This happened to me on my first road trip without the fob. Car was only a week old and I forgot to bring the key. Paak was not working 100% so I had the dumb idea to reset the paak in the car. By deleting it and then add it back. This however brought up the screen to reset my emergency pass code which demands the fob to complete. I freaked out thinking my car was now dead in the water but I was able to reset paak with my phone by skipping that step. I added my wife’s and son’s as a backup. When we got home I was able to reset the emergency pass code and actually the paak has worked well since but I carry the fob with me if I go out of town now for sure.

I got it in writing (text message in FordPass app) that ""... and Backup Start Passcodes were removed ..." That isn't true, the Backup Start Passcode was NOT removed. I don't even know if it really did a "Master Vehicle Reset." I can confirm that my PaaK has stopped working.

Why should we believe something just because it is in writing?
Ditto. Nothing in writing that the code has a shelf life but the fact that the message on ford pass said the backup code was also reset doesn’t inspire confidence. So even if they don’t know what they were talking about (which is possible; they said it’s the first MME they have seen) I wouldn’t risk it with the family in tow.
To reiterate though the dealer I bought the car from was at least as helpful as they could be remotely. They said they didn’t believe the passcode should be affected (even though

my anecdotal experience is that yes Tesla is generally better, but owners still walk around with the card fob and use it occasionally due to faulty PaaK.

it seems like the issue here though is not poor PaaK but an inadvertent master reset which feels worse.

Can you share how you did this? I can’t seem to skip the part where it demands a fob

This issue happened to me last night as well at 10:29pm July 15th, received a notification that "All Phone As a Key access and Backup Start Passcodes were removed ... due to Master Vehicle Reset. A vehicle key fob is required for operation".

Went to the car and yes my phone as key didn't work but the door & car codes worked to start the car. Went back with the fob and had to reset things to connect the phone as key again, now I have concern on this happening when I'm outside with the car.
