Finally saw someone's frustration for myself. I see stuff like this on FB all the time, but never for myself until now.

Downtown Williamsville, NY. Went out to dinner and noticed this Jeep parked in a dedicated charging spot. After dinner I saw this upon returning to my Mach E. I hope this person had a passenger who would've noticed this, if not then there's probably a door handle still zip tied to this charger today. No need for this in my opinion. If you can carry around zip ties, you can carry a pen and pad and leave a note next time.

That's a total dick move, as well as being pointless. My bet is that the charge cable gives way before the door handle. Then the charger is unusable for who knows how long.

glad that you didn't get blamed for it... with the charge door open.. I could see the Jeep owner blaming you.

Probably not the ideal solution either. The first comment on that page is from another d-bag:

Let's not contribute to the thinking that EV owners are self-righteous jackwagons.

Most definitely. I had just unplugged when I took the photo but if they had come out before me I could for sure see me getting blamed for it. If I had some cutters with me I would've removed the charger from their handle.

Parking in an EV space (and not charging ... or not even owning an EV) is a shitty move ... but not necessarily illegal. Parking in a handicap space definitely is... but many other specially designated spaces aren't covered under the law. That will vary based on the local government.

But... if the EV station is on private property, the property owner can likely have the car towed ... and that's pretty expensive for the owner of the car. If a person gets towed just once I doubt they'll ever do that again.

Some property owners make deals with towing companies and allow them to patrol and tow any car parked where it should not be parked.

Honestly: Even with two zip ties they are the weakest link here. It may have left a scratch. In my experience they are pretty brittle and will break easily.

Likley it probably damaged the J1772 connector either when it hit the ground or when it was run over but I doubt the vehicle got any damage.

Having said that, however, it still is a pretty jerk move.

"I'll just be here for a bit. No one will be hurt by my parking there."
"Nobody ever uses these spots."
"I'm in a hurry."
"They shouldn't have special spots. They can park like the rest of us."

All things said about handicapped spots.

Out here, parking in an EV spot is just as citable as parking in a Handicapped spot. And just as ignored by LE and lot owners.

Call me whatever you like, but if you don't want to expose yourself to vandalism, then maybe don't be a jerk in the first place? Of course, this assumes the Jeep did it on purpose and ignored any posted sign(s) saying parking is for charging only.

Are we sure the Jeep didnt do this themselves to keep someone from using the charger?

What gets me is Tesla drivers who park in EV spots, without charging mind you. Had one tonight in fact, just sitting in the parking spot without being hooked up, even was pulled in vs backed in. There was no possible way that guy/gal was charging at an Electrify America bay pulled in.

I see this very very often and its almost always a Tesla, although not all the time. If a non Tesla EV did this at a Tesla charger it would probably be burned to the ground lol

I grew up on Long Island. Screwing with jerks like this was stand practice in the 70's-80's. Not saying I agree with this activity. Back then if you parked in two or more spots you ran the risk of getting keyed.

Thanks for the parking note jaycake. I've been meaning to print something like this out. I see too many jerks in my area of Cali.
