I just took the family for our first camping trip in the Mach-E, and I couldn't be happier with the amount of cargo I was able to haul in my MME. In particular I was really impressed with the amount of camp gear I was able to stow away in the Frunk!

- 1 Large sized 14' x 14' screen house tent
- 1 Large sized 8 person tent
- 1 full sized camp chair
- 3 compact camp chairs
- 1 picnic mat
- 1 compact sleeping mat
- 1 1lb propane cylinder
- 1 hammock
- 1 Tire inflator kit with coiled extension hose

With all that gear just in the frunk alone, the Mach-E has all the storage space a family of 4 needs for a very comfortable car camping adventure. There was no need to compromise on what I could or couldn't bring, and we pretty much brought everything but the kitchen sink without issues!

In fact, my wife originally suggested we take our 7 seater Kia Sorento on this trip to ensure we had the space we needed, but I insisted the Mach-E was more than up to the task, and I was not disappointed!

With that said, I just wanted to say thank you to the engineers at Ford who did not take the easy way out on this vehicle like the VW ID4, and instead took the time to build a proper sports utility vehicle with a very usable front trunk! Had it not been for the frunk, I'm certain we would have had to leave the Mach-E at home, so kudos for a job very well done! ?

This is a very sexy and sporty family vehicle with plenty of real world range and UTILITY! By the way I averaged about 4.4 km/kwh on this trip with the vehicle fully loaded, not to mention the fact that I'm running 235/55/19 CrossClimate2 tires as well, which have a very aggressive tread pattern, and are nowhere near as energy efficient as the stock tires.

Impressive! Now we just need remote opening. ??

That's crazy! The video really drove it home, because generally we just see "one carry-on bag" and it's not that impressive. This? Impressive!

Trade the Kia Sorento for another Ford, including another Mustang Mach-E. This way you only need to visit just one dealer and sponsor U.S. brands.

Anyone know what kind of temperatures the frunk can get to in the blazing hot sun? I keep meaning to throw a thermometer in there and test it. I'd like to be able to throw my backpack in there rather than leaving it in the hatch area when I'm running errands, but I have some electronics in there that I don't want to melt.

How do you like the CrossClimate tires? My only real complaint with my MME is road noise from the OEM Michelins. I was thinking of the CrossClimates.

That’s really impressive, thanks for sharing. The only time I’ve seen the frunk in person is with the divider in place, and that really makes the overall space seem way smaller than what you managed to fit in there.

I'm not loyal to any brand, I just buy the products that fulfill my wants and needs at the time I make a purchase so that I get the best bang for the buck. Of course buying domestic is a factor, but not a big one if I have to compromise elsewhere. The Mach-E was actually my very first Ford, and I bought it because it appealed to me more than a Tesla model Y, or any other electric cross over SUV out there.

With that said the Sorento is primarily my wife's car, but I do already have my eye's set on the electric Ford F150 Lightning to potentially replace our "bigger utility vehicle" needs. Not because it's a Ford, not because it's made in America, but rather because I think it's going to best fill the role of an all electric large utility vehicle. The Rivian and the Cyber truck seem more gimmicky to me, and the Lightning looks to me like a very serious effort to offer everything I would want or need in a truck and then some, and do so extremely well based on what I have seen so far.

The grip I get on the road is really like night and day. Particularly when making Jack rabbit starts when turning into another lane. The stock tires would let the back end come lose, and squeal which was fun and looked cool. But at the end of the day I prefer control and superior handling to making allot of noise and putting on a show for pedestrians.. I guess as a parent I'm getting old and "responsible" or something lol. But seriously though, I'm thinking about what if I need to make a quick maneuver on the highway to avoid a high speed collision? I don't want the back end coming out in those conditions, and the Michelin CrossClimate2 seem extremely well planted on the road. The stock tires really seemed very under sized and not up to the task in that regard for this size and weight vehicle.

On the con side of things I have lost a bit of range to where I am now always meeting rather than exceeding the EPA estimates (even at highway speeds). But that was a small tradeoff I think for the better handling, smoother ride, and more confidence I get with the cross climate2 tires. Increasing the PSI to 42 (when sitting cold) helped quite a bit though.

I should also mention that I have noticed that when conditions are just right, I hear like a high pitched sound coming from the front tires when driving at high speed when the wind is coming at me at just the right angle. You can actually feel it in the steering wheel. But basically the tread on these tires are pretty darn aggressive, so I kind of expected that. But for the most part the tires are noticeably quieter believe it or not in 99% of all other driving, as compared to the stock tires which really surprised me.

When changing tires you do have to watch the load rating. The side loading on corners and loading on a lumpy road can reach 1.5 times the car's dead weight.

The 235/55/R19 Michelin CrossClimate2 that I put on actually have a higher load rating than the stock Primacy tires, while also matching the stock speed rating.

See stats below for comparison:

You must have kicked butt at Tetris!

But seriously, with that added weight up front, did you notice any handling issues compared to an empty frunk?
