Yep the MachE models will perform less then its Teslas counterparts, but that performance is not something i need in my daily life. I live in a country with mainly single lane highways and max speeds of 55mph, safe to say there is performance a plenty with ever MachE. However I do believe the GT release of the MachE will outperform the ModelYs but havent really looked deep into the different variants of the ModelY either and if they will offer a D version.

I’ve seen this chart posted by several outlets. Does anyone know from where the Mach-E starting pricing of $65,500 comes?

Another thing to consider in comparing the Mach-E to Model Y is that in the US the Ford will start out eligilble for the full tax rebate whereas the Model Y won’t.

This is something I've been trying to understand. Does anyone need it? Super fast acceleration seems useless when driving around town or on an inner city freeway. Especially if you don't want to be a danger to others. I guess I don't get it. If you were to take it to a track or somewhere completely isolated I could understand, but most won't.

What am I missing here?

I agree, most will never require such acceleration like modern EVs have in their daily lives. My wife and I share an Ipace and use it has our only car for the family, we have never had any situation where we needed to get to 60 in 5 seconds and hopefully never will. This is how cars and especially EVs get marketed though and it's this which ultimately gets peoples attention.

I definitely agree with comments that performance is not a must have. I test drove the Tesla Model S and X, and was thrilled by the acceleration. But in reality, this is not something for everyday and commuting miles. In fact, I think the power performance from my current Explorer sport package is more than enough. I accelerate when I need but not all the time. I am sure Ford figured this out in their focus groups and survey of prospective buyers.

The all-around stats on the Mach E seem like a great mix of features at a great price point. And since the size dimensions is similar to the Audi Q5, I am excited and cannot wait to get my First Edition.

The MachE certainly surprised me with it's total cargo space combined with range and price which is what sold me on a RWD Long Range. I cannot wait to get mine either, but since you have an FE I will be waiting longer. Surprisingly the FEs are still today available for pre order here in Norway at least.

I love everything about the Mach-E but its height. I have been driving minivans, SUV's and crossovers for the last 35 years and have become accustomed to the higher driving position along with the ease of getting into a vehicle now with my 74 year old body. The Mach-E is almost 3 inches shorter than my current vehicle so I am 'dying' to sit in the Mach-E to see if it measures up in driving position and ease of entry. The Model 3 is reportedly 2 inches wider than the Mach-E which leads me to believe it may be a little taller too.

If you think performance is not a must have, then you should test drive a prius.

Seriously, it's just fun and safer to merge into traffic when you have to merge onto the expressway going from 0 to 75 (or faster as often traffic is running over the speed limit).

Does everyone need it, no. However, if you have to get on and off a busy expressway daily, than you appreciate and feel safer if you can accelerate 0-60 in under 7 seconds. If you can do it under 4, then it's just fun and some people like big toys.

I rented the mid 5 second Model 3 for the day. It's quick and impressed my family and friends. Most people will be very happy with that. I feel Ford shouldn't make any version of the Mach E slower than mid 5's. Instant torque is one of the greatest benefits of BEV's and if it drives like a regular SUV then people would be as likely to buy it. I ended up buying a stealth model 3. It's a 3.2 second car and is so much of fun to drive. I look forward to driving it everyday. I'm a Ford man heart so when the Mach E GT come out, I'm planning on buying one of them.

Apparently the Mach E GT performance model will feature this:
459 horsepower
612 pound-feet of torque
0-60 in approx 3.5

That will be competing with all Tesla's. But I personally don't need this. Our speed limits here are below 60 anyway and a normal RWD model will be absolutely fine. And this coming from a guy driving an IPace for over a year which features:
394 horsepower
512 lb-ft of torque
0-60 in approx 4.8

Yes but that is one extreme. I'm talking about debating over 5 to 3 second differences. Like the tesla upgrade, $2000 for a half a second extra.

Carwow in the UK did a 70mph freeway range test with many of these competitors in the Mach-E's segment and got some good data points for us to see.

Here is a spreadsheet with some comparisons of the Mach-E Premium AWD ER with the Model Y AWD ER. (non-performance). Yellow highlight identifies a "winner" (using my subjective criteria) for a category.

Good stuff, but check the weight of the MME. I think you're off by 600 lbs or so.

Thank you for putting this together! I think cargo space needs to be updated for MME. I think Tesla’s number includes the frunk, but your number for the MME does not.
