That is what 20 bags of black earth (530 pounds) for landscaping did to my trunk. Didn't realize how weak the support for the cover of trunk area was. Am I supposed to take off the cover before I load weight, or did Ford make a weak design/solution there?

Edit: the answer is that it won't support 530 lbs, and it needs to be put in its lower position if you want to try/risk loading 530 pounds of material in the trunk.

The cover has an upper and a lower position, the part that broke is a support for the upper position, the flat area below it is the support for the lower position, stronger. The only reason to use the upper position is, if the seats are folded down it is more even.

Yeah this is unfortunate but honestly I would see if a dealer would replace it under warranty because there isnt any weight limit posted anywhere that I've seen. (no posted trunk cover weight limit and it breaking could be interpreted as not working correctly from factory imo)

In the future try keeping your trunk in the lower position under those clips. Gives you more room and the rubber protection mat in the trunk fits way better if you have one.

The trunk floor is designed to be adjustable to either a high or low position. High for a flat surface when the rear seats are folded or just for looks. The lower position will have more load-bearing capability. I couldn't easily find a weight limit in the owner's manual for the floor in the upper position though. Perhaps there's a label somewhere?

Hopefully, that can be fixed right up.

Thanks, I kept wondering why the fit seems like the mat is too big. I'll move my floor tongiht.

That is quite useful to know, I never figured I could install it in a lower position! I'll definitely do that for now, and will try to get dealer to repair..

"A couple of bags" was actually 20 bags of 25L of black earth. It fit all nice, but now I know I should have moved the cover to its lower position!

I think there is a posted limit, I want to say it was like 300lbs. If I remember right it was posted a month or so ago on someone asking about the weight limits.

The Ford mat fits very well in the lower position. The rear lip fits below the edge.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Don't put too much weight in the trunk! Lower mat 2

20x25L = 500L of dirt, 635 kg, 1400 lbs.

Yes that's about 2x as much weight as you can load, the axle was overloaded. The rear axle can only handle about an additional 350 kg from the empty weight, so 11 bags max. Half of them should be in the back seat or floor pan. The Mach-E is not a truck for hauling.

I just want to say I love the posts that are all “use the lower position” like he’s got a flux capacitor just lying around.
It's probably more a case of warning others that weren't aware the trunk floor had 2 positions, with the lower position having much more support than the upper.

Yes that's severely overloaded (axle), by a factor of 2x. The rear axle can only handle about an additional 350 kg from the empty weight, so 11 bags max. Half of them should be in the back seat or floor pan. The Mach-E is not a truck for hauling.

My insurance policy says "2021 Ford Truck Mustang Mach E Ev 4D 2Wd"

I thought it was a truck...
